I was wondering what the best cpu/motherboard combo can be had for my money. I was hoping to go with intel but I couldnt decide between Ivy and Haswell... And then AMD have a 6 core for cheap but the i5 would beat that. I have a few ideas but dont want to spending more than £150-£1

Core i5 3330 or i5 3350p
&
ASRock B75 Pro3-M

Haswell I was looking at that the

Core i5 4430 and some B85 motherboard

150 to 1 pound? i'm just gonna guess that it's somewhere near the 175 pound mark. now it really depends on how much you are into overclocking, if you are willing to put the time into it the AMD 6core CPUs might not be the worst choice, if you don't want to bother with that the 4430 b85 combo will do you fine.

I agree. You should go with an AMD fx6300/6350 and 970/990 motherboard. Only go 990 if you plan on sli or cf. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. I would be afraid of over clocking as I'm not a computer expert and my case is Micro atx?

Ahh, gotcha. In that case, there aren't many good matx options for amd fx cpu's. If you do decide to go the amd route get an Fx6300 because it has a lower TDP of 95w so it wouldn't be as strenuous on the vrm if you do decide to overclock it. I have built a few fx6300 systems and the was able to get 4-4.2GHz stable on them without any voltage increase. But, if you don't ever plan on overclocking, I would go with the i5 4430 based on it's better core performance.

I doubt you'll get much for £150 I got my bundle back in march last year for £153 which was the FX-4100, Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 and 16GB Corsair XMS3 bargain at the time. Admittedly I should have held on a while and gone for the FX-6300 or the Ivy Bridge equivalent, but none the less I'm satisfied with my system and surprised at the power of the 4100 even though it's a dozer.

do. not. buy an fx-4100. f*cking hell i hate that thing.

Thanks for the suggestions. You're certainly right,I couldn't find a good am3 Marx board in this budget. I could always pick up a phenom ii x4 945 for 60 quid off Amazon with cheap mobo?

I would go with the i5 if you can afford it. If your budget is really tight you could go with the athlon 750k, which is an a10 apu with the igpu turned off, because the fm2 socket has a few good mATX mobos. If you go that route look for a fm2 mobo that has a heatsink over the VRM, such as the ASUS F2A85-M PRO or the ASRock FM2A85X Extreme4.
