Choosing a GPU help

Hey guys.

So I am new around here and starting my new build after years of laptop use.
I will mainly use my system for gaming and CAD work/3d rendering. I am open to ANY suggestions.

The rest of my system is on the way except the GPU.
The specs:
CPU: i7 3770k
MB: MSI MPower
Ram: 8GB Corsair Vengeance Kit @ 1866
PSU: bequiet! Dark Power Pro 750w

Now, I was thinking between the GTX670 or HD7950? Would it be worth while to wait for the HD 8xxx series cards?

If I do go with a current series card, I will be doing a Sli/Xfire build within a few months.

Thanks guys

8xxx series is still quite a way off so I wouldn't bother waiting.
If you going to overclock go with the HD7950 if not go with the GTX670.
Also the HD7950 comes with a great bundle of games at the moment.

The 670 does have cuda, it might help some rendering but I'm not sure. What programs are you planning to use?

And yes, AMD's never settle bundel is quite nice.

GTX670 would be my card of choice. If you can afford a 7970 or GTX680 then they would be even better. The 670 is a little better than the 7950 but its also more expensive. I think you should always buy as much GPU horsepower as you can afford.

It all depends on the prices in your place. A nice dual fan sapphire 7950 (o/c beasts those cards!) or a good GTX670, is what you want. You can't go wrong either way.

Personally I'm in favour of the AMD one, since I find the multimonitor desktop usage a bit better, but that's just me :)

If you are going to be doing multi-monitor, I would choose AMD in most cases, however Nvidia I have heard has better 3D. Also, if you can push for a 7970 or 680 instead, DO IT.

Go for as much GPU power as you can when making something to last. Especially if you are going to be doing SLI or Crossfire.

Thanks for the input guys. I think i will be getting two MSI twinfrozr iii 7950 and some free games to sweeten the deal.

And off topic, should I keep the stock fans in my Obsidian 650D or replace with either Noctua or Corsair AF series fans?

Thanks

Considering that 7950 is only 1/8th (roughly) performance less than 7970 and alot cheaper I would go for that.

The fans are not necessary, 650D stock fans provide sufficient airflow. If you wanna go for silence then yeah I would go for for the Noctuas, check out the NF series.

See im in the same boat as well. Im thinking of going for the GTX 670 FTW because of Cuda as well as the fact that its some what more powerful then the 7950, but the price in addition to the free games is whats drawing me closer to the 7950 :/
