Chipset fan on DFI SLI-D

i have the very same mobo and the zalman passive heatsink, i put my card in the lower slot so the chipset only runs the pci ex at 8x instead of 16x making it work less hard therefore cooler... in my hot room its sitting at 37 degrees at the moment

as you can see from the zalman on the x800xl it would need an awful lot of pin fiddling to get it in place...

the other day someone said to me that NOONE replaces thier nf4 chipset fans with passive ones... i laughed becuase im hardly a pioneer and im sure many have both

Do you notice any performance difference running at 8x instead of 16x? I'm guessing not noticeable.

the difference in neglible and i doubt there is actually any diff since the x800xl runs at 8x anyway... havent really run any benchies yet but if i finish my java assn tonight then ill definalty have a play and let you guys know

Yeah I highly doubt there is a difference. I think it onyl really makes any difference is with the newer 512mb GTXs
