Case Fan Setup

Well, first off, you know heat rises. Right? Since the CPU fan will suck up all the cool air and turn it into hot air.........you don't want that hot air back in your CPU so you have to find a way to let it escape fast. The best way for this to happen is to have intake fans on the front and exhaust fans on the back. this way when the hot air off your CPU rises, it will just get sucked away by your exhaust fans. The video card and CPU get direct cool air from the two fan locations nearest the critical hardware. There are also methods of case airflow that I will cover later and update this FAQ.

Nice one mate. That's good - basic physics for beginners and great diagram.

So.....if I have an Antec SUPER LAN BOY with 1 x 120mm at the front, 1 x PSU with 120mm fan and a 120mm fan at the rear. If I put a 120mm fan at the base of the case then that will be beneficial to my airflow? I've heard that there is a point where more air pressure than hinders rather then helps?

a bottom fan will make your airflow better by pushing the hot air out of your case.
 
You want to have slightly more air coming in than going out. This is because positive pressure inside the case hampers the intake of dust. Which is a good thing :)

And a side fan blowing onto the graphics card/CPU area will be more benificial than one on the bottom...
 
Yeah thats what I was thinking. A fan on the bottom would blow straight up onto the face of the GPU tho, just never thought about it before! :)

Yeah - having taken a look at the bottom of my case I don't think a fan right in the bottom would actually get any air into the case. Might have to take a look at the window to mod it? :D

why at the bottom, duhr. if u have a top exhuast fan it brings everyting in, up, and out. i have ONE case fan, my top one. 120mm Tt SmartFan II LED. Pulls out 38cfm @ 17.5db. it pulls air in my case wherever it can. through all the empty fan vent holes, everything.
 
My case has airflow like this:



I have a hole in the side of case in line with my cpu so maybe I'll put something there cause of my airflow. I turned down my psu fans to their lowest setting for airflow and cause they ring at high rpms. Overall my airflow seems stable.
 
another good idea is if you have a big case or dont use many cdroms or dvdroms iv modded 2 80mm fans in my cdrom bay that bring in cool air and push it right to the cpu. For me it has kept cpu 4-5C cooler then with it off.
 
i have 4 80mm fans at the front ( intake)

2x80 at the side panel 1x80mm in the rear and 1x120mm PSU (exausth) :D
