Card for 1080p?

Alright guys.
Am looking for a new card.
Gonna be running a 1080p monitor and am gonna be using it for gaming, so I want to be able to get between 30 and 60fps on high settings in games like Borderlands 2, the witcher 3 skyrim and battlefield games.
Budget, well not titan money only work part time other than that anything goes.

If I was going to go with a 700 series card I would go with the 770 man bit more power for not much more money

I'd go with 970, you can pick them up really cheap used, and not that expensive brand new either. if budget allows it

I would say the 760 is a little bit underpowered for those tasks. I would recommend a 960 or if the budget allows a 970. Or a 380 respectively a 390 from AMD

To the OP I play those games at those FPS and at 1080p I only have a GTX750Ti, £100 - £130 should land you a decent enough card.Take a look at the GTX960 or the new GTX950, exceptional cards for the money.

Will have a look into the 970 and both AMD cards, am using a 270x right now but I cannot for the life of me find a bloody water block for it, that and its getting on a bit, bought it when sapphire first released this one.

I'd go for a 390 over a 970. Tends to run faster and prices are about the same. The MSI Twin Frozr card is probably the best 390 series card right now. If budget can be extended, well I guess it depends by how much. Next AMD card up is a 390x and it's quite a bit more than a 390. GTX 980's are little more than a 390x too, at least where I live.

If you're watercooling than go for a 390 (although I've seen 290X reference cards go for less than a 380..).

Just make sure you buy a reference card whichever you choose they are much easier to source waterblocks for compared to non reference pcb cards

Probably try pick a 290x reference card on eBay if I can, if not the 390 might be the one I go with, lets see some time closer to black friday, I've heard EK make the blocks for them and I've heard a lot of good things about EK

A 390 is typically on par with a 290x as well as better overclocking.
Ek and XSPC and other companies all make great blocks tbh

I'd say for Battlefield 4 and Witcher 3? Get the AMD R9 380 for 1920x1080 with medium/highish settings and 30 to 60 fps. The GTX 960 is barely faster than the R9 380 in The Witcher 3 (about 1-5fps lol), but in Battlefield 4? The R9 380 can take advantage of Mantle.

If you're looking for high end card with great graphical details? I'd say the AMD R9 390. Once again, the GTX 970 is barely faster in Witcher 3 (about 1-5fps lol), but in Battlefield 4? The R9 390 can take advantage of Mantle.

If you're looking for the cheapest GPU? I'd recommend the GTX 950. Epic price to performance. The AMD R9 370 is ok... but I dunno, this is the one price range NVIDIA has a big advantage.

I managed to snatch myself a new EVGA 780Ti with 2 years warranty for under the price of what a 970 goes for ... that's if you don't mind last gen GPU ... if you prefer current gen, the other members' advice is more than viable

The only problem with older gen cards is that it's very easy for Nvidia to derp their performance in games to push you onto the new gen.

The Witcher 3 ran like dog turd on my Titan Blacks and it took ages for Nvidia to address it. I would imagine it was completely intentional.

If you only wanna play at 1080p and not 1440p or 4k, i think r9 380 4GB would be more than enough for any game released atm or in future 2 years atleast, but i cant guarantee that as games require more and more power to run them.

I played the Witcher 3 very nice with my GTX 680, no problem whatsoever. And I wouldn't really see the reason they would mess up with the Titan Black drivers seeing the price tag of the said GPU.

shows the difference in frame rates between 970 and 780 Ti ... but keep in mind that this was back in may so the game as well as the drivers have been updated since then

Anyways, price wise if you want to save up to 50-60 pounds you can hunt for a 780 Ti on ebay, if not 970 will more than suffice for 1080p gaming ( or it's AMD counterpart works well also )
