Any idea if an insurer would charge more for modifications during a policy as opposed to declaring them at the start?

Nah not likly, but you will get the admin cost of amending the policy, my insurance charged me £35 admin fee when i changed few bits on mine

Depends on the mod. They'd refuse to pay out if they weren't advised. Regardless of whether it contributed to the accident.

They could up the premiums or refuse to insure so give them a call first.

Ah ok cool. Is it worth adding 'mods' on a standard policy, or are there mod-friendly ones?

Nah I didn't mean not declaring them, just meant is it better to wait until a new policy to add 'mods', i.e. would they charge more knowing that I'm in the middle of a policy rather than looking for a new one, Kambo knows what I mean.

Depends on the mod dude, if its window tints or a stainless exhaust then no most companies will cover it, but if you done more im talking chassis alterations or bodywork stuff i would switch to a specialist insurance purely because most 'normal' companies will give you hassle.

The extent of possible mods:

Alloys swap
Headlight swap
Exhaust system (not headers)
Trimming (Grilles, etc).

They all reasonable enough in your opinion?

Yeah man they're fine i wouldn't consider them major mods, who iss your insurance with atm?

Ahh you should be fine, dont see them kicking up a fuss at all, Direct Line and Tesco seem to main culprits

Ah ok cool. Do you know if declaring painted stock alloys is required, how do you know where to draw the line, do you just ring up to be sure?

The rule of thumb is, if its not to the spec of your car as it came out the factory, it needs to be declared, me personally, i declare everything, because insurance companies will try everything in their power to make sure they don't pay out. Even if you put M3 wheels on a 330Ci they'll claim its not as standard, so to be safe id just tell them you have non OEM alloys are they're painted whatever colour.

Ok that's what I thought, thanks for the advice as always!

Roughly how much have they spent doing that? Looks expensive lol.

Cheers dude, i've messaged them

The bonnet modification alone was 3K, the front bumper is a 2 different bumpers molded and extended into 1, think he paid 2K for that, yeah so the list goes on

Its expensive in general terms, but not too bad considering the amount of man hours and stuff put into this, he's done so much more, hell ive done alot to this car you can't even see, alot of electrical work has been done, if you know jap cars then you know how poor the wiring is.
