Car photos/discussion thread

A girl in my group at college is hoping to get insured on her dads triumph stag. 3L v8 for an 18 year old..... Though she says vintage insurance so i'm not sure. Anyone know anything about it?

I thought with something like that, you would need to be at least 21 or 25? Not sure though.

On a side note, my car is roaring like a small tiger :P, the area still needs a good clean and I need to change the tube connecting it, it also feels much more responsive...

Mine sounded like a rally car till me and my dad put a new down pipe in yesterday :L. I would have left it but the leak was before the O2 sensor and it was using a tonne of petrol :(.

The stag will be alot to insure and they drink fuel like a mustang. Low 20s at best. Lovely cars though albeit a bit unreliable.

Classic car insurance is way cheaper for some reason, for a car like that and at that age it would still be a fair bit though

Went to a local meeting of the saab owners club a few weeks back. Got to go over the barrage in Cardiff Bay. Wearing it's silver bonnet with pride. Since tweaking the map, the fuel economy is on the rise, now up to 30mpg.

Normally they are limited on the mileage, say 5k a year.
Thats what makes them cheap.

I don't think they would offer that policy for an 18 year old.
Most that I have seen, have a floor limit of 21.

That is a really clean car for a 94/95. Really nice.

Stag owners would be over joyed to get 20 mpg. :D

Usually they have either the standard fit triumph engine, 3.0 V8 about 140 bhp (on a good day).

However most you see advertised will have a 3.5 rover v8, depending how recent it is they are 150 bhp and up with capability of over 300 with headwork, cams, blueprinted etc.

Rust was an enemy of them, followed by cooling issues, but parts are readily available to rebuild one now.

Got quoted £2500 insurance and it will cost that for the car so £5000 i need to save for this puppah. I would probably get a tracker box installed i think that takes the insurance down by £500. If i do end up with a leaky one it doesn't matter that much as it hardly ever rains in the morning where live for some odd reason.

How old are you/how old will you be when you actually insure yourself on it?

Your insurance quotes will near enough half each year you get older for the first few years.

My first year was over £2000 I think, second £1100, and now down to £530, and the final year is the only one I had no claims bonus in.

If you're close to a birthday I'd suggest waiting a bit if you can.

Tracking boxes are terrible and you'll begin to hate driving if you have one.

I agree with this. I don't have one personally but 3 of my friends do. One of them has a curfew and was stuck with either being 10 minutes late on it or breaking the speed limit. The other 2 drive them to college most days and hate that they can't over take slower moving cars. I'd advise against them strongly.

Ill be 17 once i actually come to buy and insure it. 270 days, 6480 hours, 1620 hours i can work and at Mcdonalds wages that should be £7290 which is enough for a car and to get fancy bits for my PC if i manage to save.

The tracking boxes can tell if you speed too quickly if you come out of junctions too, heard my brother getting a bollocking from my dad. Think ill pass on the box.

a quick question guys, to get a second opinion really, some guy told me that with the cone filter I recently installed in my car I am going to kill my engine, any suggestions or recommendations?

No you wont kill your engine by changing your air filter to a cone style. Who said that to you? What type car is it?

its a 1999 Fiat Bravo with a 1.9L 75HP turbo diesel engine, I don't know the guy, he was on the fiat forum and he commented on a post I did (I already asked there but those forums are too slow for me :) )

Seriously only 75 bhp?! out of a 1.9. My mums 307 has a 1.6 tdi and its 110bhp. My 206 1.4 petrol has 75 bhp. No offence but that seems a tad low :P
