Car History? - **56k**

had a quick scan and search and couldnt find a thread that was reletively new about this, so i figured for a bit of fun, people could post up their car historys, if they revel so much in their motors asmuch as their pc's

obvious detail would be to mention to make sure your numberplate aint showing, and maybe list a few details? :)

i'll start:

when i passed my test, i was religated to driving my grans car

this:

Vauxhall Corsa C 1.4, Automatic, Elegance, 5 door, turquoise

how manly must i have looked, i have long hair too btw :p

i've taken this from 19,900 to 30,200 so far, i'm still insured on it as a second car:

granscorsa1.jpg

granscorsa2.jpg

then i decided i was sick of driving it about after about a year, so with a years no claims under my belt, i went for somthing that would make me a bit more indipendant, and i loved it

it was a peugeot 306, phase 1, 1.4 litre manual, red, XL, 3 door

a rare car, because the phase 1 306's were seldom made in 3 doors unless they were XSI's or Dturbo's

pug306phase1-2.jpg

pug306phase1.jpg

this car, cost me so much over the few months i had it

i bought it for 500 quid + a 32" HDTV, + a 10.1mp samsung camera, then on driving it home, the head gasket went, so dropped a new engine into it, another 1.4, then over the next two months, in no particular order, the following broke:

gearbox

battery

front suspension, both springs

shocks started leaking

injector went

inlet manifold developed a crack

exaust manifold started blowing

all 4 tyres were bald

front disks went

front pads went

rear shoes went

all brake lines went, corroded, and just burst (that wasnt too fun on a A road)

alternator went (rescued by RAC)

gear linkage bent and snapped (again a rescue by the RAC)

starter motor went

on the plus side, no electric windows to break

no sunroof to leak

no power steering to break (it was like a tank to steer :p)

on the plus side, even though it was registered in 1994, it did have remote central locking, which was brilliant,

i gave it a few upgrades too, namely new speakers and a head unit, the old speakers looked like somthing you'd find in a church :p

eventually, it developed more problems, so i just gave in, every time i put the clutch down coming upto a junction to change gear, it would die, and wouldnt start again for a good 5 minutes, needless to say, this was dangerous, not only from traffic, but from people coming to ask me why the F**K i was holding everyone up, and threatening me lol

it was on the upside, only 1292 to insure for a year under my own name, no named drivers

when i bought it, it was on 132,900, when i eventually "wrote it off" as cat C, more to repair than to replace, it was on 149,900, in 3 months

anyway, a friend from college decided he would "help" me, as someone had just given him a 306, but a newer one, and he said if he got it through MOT he would want 750 for it (he did spend about 600 on parts)

and he passed it on MOT

pug306phase2-1.jpg

and there it is, a 306, phase 2, electric front windows, driver airbag, electric mirrors, remote central locking, power steering, and a generally nicer look to it

306phase2-2.jpg

it was only a 35 quid upgrade on insurance too, so looking rather promising, same 1.4 litre engine block as my old car, but multi point fuel injection instead of single point, so it had a lot more nippyness too it, it had front fog lights as standard too, and an electric sunroof,

needless to say this went through a lot of repairs too, i bought it on 98,800, and sold it on 112,900

it went through two gearboxes, a clutch, a new exaust system from the manifold down, new exaust mountings, new springs, and shocks, new washerjets, new washer jet bottle, new radeator, new rad pipes, new heater matrix (ouch on the pocket for that one, dashboard out job)

i spent about 3000 on it, and ended up selling it for 185, but when i sold it, it needed a lot more work doing to it, so i was optimistic, it needed new drop links, and 4 new tyres, and various other bits fixing

the same day, i was in luck, i got my hands on 2k, i'd rather not say how, just needless to say i was rather lucky, or...well, unlucky, but..

so car hunting i went

and i spotted this:

mycorsac-1.jpg

corsac-interior.jpg

vauxhall corsa C, same as my grans, but the SRi model, in 1.4 litre, in silver, manual, with all the gadgets and gizmos you'd expect from a significantly more moden car than my last two

remote central locking, power steering, driver and passanger airbag, electric windows, electric mirrors etc

the downside is that the alloys were quite kerbed, the drivers side mirror was taped on, no service history, and a couple of stone chips to the paintwork on the back bumper and the front bumper

all in all not bad then

and only 94,000 miles, quite low mileage considering its age, the glasses guide, if you know anything about cars, you will know all car experts refer to it for a price, priced it, even with its mileage at 3200, i got it for 2100

upgraded my insurance, again for only 35 quid, but this needed a fair bit of work doing to it too

needed new disks and pads, it was vented, drilled disks though, i was quite suprised such good brakes were on it tbh, shame there is no abs though

new cambelt, it was still on its origonal cambelt from 0 - 96,800 miles, it did quite well, and i was very lucky, it had a new steering rack, and one new engine mount, then it was ship shape, its now in 100,250

thats my car history upto date, i look forward to reading other people's :)

Seriously man! That Pug cost you a small fortune. Some nice cars though. Prefer the 306 to the Corsa. ;)

Most peeps on here know what wagon I drive about in. She is my pride and joy. Got her this year in August/September time for around £2500. She is 26 years old and has done around 50k miles. Only driven her 500miles since but with not a single problem. The car itself is my dream car from when I was younger and have her as my first is... well, a dream come true.

Powered by a 1.6L Ford Pinto engine with a Twin Choke Weber and high performance airfilter. My baby.. My 1983 Ford Capri 1.6 LS.

She sounds luurrrrvly too! :)

Second piccar is older because I got it with 7-spoke Alloys... and I didn't like them so stuck the 4-spoke RS Allys on her.

to put the pugs in perspective, i'm now 5500 in debt, with no job =/

my.....f***ing god, that is a beautiful car

i've always admired capri's, never even come close to thinking bout owning one though

only thing i'd have over a capri, another 306, or a rover 25, is a rover 45, i'd love a rover 45, or a MG ZS

Beautiful car Toxcity :)

99V Ford Ka2 -> 06/56 Ford Fiesta Freedom

Next purchase is a BMW so the Fiesta must last me a long time. :p

Heh thanks bud! She is my lovely. :)

I am a classic car guy myself.. if I was to change car. Mmmm, MK1 Escort Mexico? Yes please. Or even a MK1 Capri!

She isn't perfect. Few bubbles here and there but overall pretty damn good. Rust is your only enemy when it comes to old cars.

I still love your Piggot (liking the nicknames?), red is by far the best colour. And with multi-injection I bet she was good fun. ;)

EDIT: Thanks Mul.

BMW seems to be where it is at when it comes to modern engine tech and they keep the good old rear wheel drive (that I love) so if I was to go sensible then Beemer here I come.

actually, believe it or not, i prefered the first one, phase 1, with single point injection, when it needed a new injector, i got one out of a citroen AX, and i *think* i may have accidently got a 1.1 injector, as it was slow as Fook after :p

but yeah, i prefer older cars too, fiesta mk 2, pug 306 phase 1, vx nova, etc

only reason i have the corsa is reliability, and i cant aford to get in any more debt, i'm not even at uni yet, and 5500 under it not good

Christ.. I think it's time you stop spending. ;)

Where's Jim? I know he has a lovely 2.8i Capri hiding away somewhere.

Fuel Injection can be fun.. but there is nothing like the sound of an opened up twin choke. Mmmm

thats only from spending due to nececity

and i called my first peugeot my pug

and my second, my puglet :D

the corsa, i know, its dreary, its so boring, bland and predictable, but its reliable, it only needs routine maintenence, not heavy surgery every time summet goes wrong, so its cheaper for me to run, hense keeping my debt down

anyway, two accidents, and 3 points later, i am trying to save up my 2400 insurance ...

How flipping much..........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeez for once I am glad I am getting old

its called bending me over a barrel, due to being 19, and having that, and probs due to going through 3 cars in a year, and so yeah....

got my 3 points as a CU50

first accident, pulled out of a back alley, well, was edging out, slowly, cos there was a van, i couldnt see, inching out, i saw a van out of the corner of my eye, stopped, didnt see anything for a good min, so started edging out again, and crash, he knocked my numberplate off and scuffed my front bumper, it put a small dint and scrape in the side of his van, after a few obscenities were shouted at me, he left, i got a letter through the post that i was being sued for 2500 quid due to whiplash and loss of business, lovely man :rolleye:

second, was on the way to college, a mondaeo slammed on infront of me, and it was raining, and my tyres were naff, but i didnt know this, it was just after i got the car, i didnt know how crap they were until i slammed on, and bash, into the back, i broke a bit of his bumper off, a bit of trim, he claimed for 1104 after my insurance company bartered him down a bit, he initially wanted 8500, but once i explained to them what had happened, they had a "talk" with him via certain soliciters, and soon put an end to that....still 1100 quid for a bumper clip...

OK...

first one,That could have been talked down to 200 quid, also if you were edging out onto a road and he was travelling down it,then technically its his fault for not spotting the hazard(surprized the ins. company did not pick up on that.

second one,yep your fault end of story.

Nissan Cherry 1.4, Olive Green with one grey door when my Mum reversed into it ;) God knows how old frankly. Failed MOT after 1 year!

Renault Clio 1.2ltr, M Reg. Nice little car, had £1200's worth of Ice in it and sounded sweet as. Brand new cam belt snapped, cost me £1100

Renault Clio Sport 172 2.0ltr variable valve timing. Induction kit and subtle strainless steel custom exhaust. Uprated brakes, suspension - 196BHp but looked totally standard. Beast of a car but cost me a fortune when a cam follower split and twisted on the cam shaft, manufacturing fault but Renault denied responsibility, despite having the followers heat shrunk onto the cam shaft!

Peugeot 106 1.4i M reg - fill in whilst I didn't need to drive much.

Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI G Reg. Stunning condition and very fast, great track day car too.

Mitsubishi FTO GPX MIVEC - 2.0Ltr V6, 200BHp M reg. My current motor and an awesome, comfortable, fast and reliable car. Custom Induction kit and subtle stainless steel exhaust fitted, as well as some new white (and MPH) dials, gaiter kit and handbrake/gear knob replaced. Some spraying needed still but all in hand ;)

ummm.. thought we did one of these before but here goes mine

1.Mini .. then a cooper .. then another cooper .. smashed the first one, smashed the second one... grew up a little and lost my courage to drive like a loon into tractors on country lanes! Then had no money and got a.....

2.Metro .. Van converted to car ( added back seats and windows ) didnt tell the insurance company!

3.Golf MK1 canary yellow .... complete rust bucket and electrics a nightmare.

4. Vauxhall cavalier .. poo brown colour

5. renault 18 .. a tank in disguise as a car .. most comfortable drive ive ever had.

6. Ford Orion Giha 1.6i leather trim all the bells and whistles .. blew it up on the M1 :p

7.peugeot 306 1.6 cornered like it was on rails

8.peugeot 307 pile off poo .. did 300 miles in it and exchanged it for a ...

9.peugeot 407 2.0ltr diesel had that brand new top of the range but had to get rid as now have a company car

10.Nissian Quasqui .. comfortable drive .. just a Micra on steroids!

11.peugeot 207 brand new for the other half.. traded in the 407

VW Polo

Ford Escort 16v (company car)

Ford Focus 16v (company car)

Vauxall Vectra (company car)

VW Golf GTi mk2 (had it for 7years or so, no problems)

the first one they blame me, because i'm pulling out from a side road into a main road, and he was traveling down a main road, thus he aparantly had right of way

1st: Citroen AX, P reg, 1 litre (954cc), 4 gears in dark green. Already had some 14" alloys, scorpion twin exhaust and rear windows were tinted. Sounded like an absolute beast due to the exhaust but it was sloooow. Totally loved it though and eventually sold it.

2nd: Seat Ibiza Mk2, R reg, 1.4 in silver. Good reliable VW really. Looked like a granny car till I spent £550 on 17" ACE chrome, twinspoke alloys on it. Later put a bodykit on it, was due to have it all sprayed when I totally wrote it off! Lucky it was a solid car - saved my life really. In total it probably cost me about £3000 - TPFT cover :(

3rd (and current): Renault Megane coupe, W reg, 1.6 in silver. Already has some 17" refurbed alloys and a rear exhaust on it (forget what make). Had it about 3 years now. Engine on it is sound, I did the cambelt as soon as I had it (at 55000 miles), but it's time for it to go as the rest has problems (bearings, suspension, driveshafts etc).

What I regret about my cars is that I didn't save any pics of my 1st two cars. I liked them both and served me well . Did have a pic of the smashed up Ibiza, but lost it :(.

I'll upload pics of my megane later on.

Anyways, me and the mrs are looking at one of these next:
