Canon IP4200 Compatables

Hello All

My Canon IP4200 Inkjet Printer is getting low on ink so I was looking round for cheap cartridges to replace the current ones when they finally run out. I have found that you can now buy compatable ones at around £6.99 for 5 but you have to take the chip off the current cartidges and put them on the new ones. Has anyone used these or had any expierence with taking chips off one cartridge and sticking them onto another and is it really that easy. Since a full set of canon ones will cost £45 then I guess if its that easy then its worth it ?

Any help is very welcome.

Thanks.

i wasnt aware printer manufacturers were making it impossible to use cheap cartridges, seems a bit unfair to me, as it is monopolising the market.

yeah, they've been doing it for awhile now. Ink is where they all make there money, so if anything dangers that, then there gonna do something about it.

I read the following of a message board;

"The new Canon printers listed above now have proprietary (patented) parts on the cartridges meaning no one except Canon can make the cartridges or work around the patented parts, at least not at this time."

There buggers aint they!

Also found these guessing there the ones u found.

Looks like that is the only cheap option, other than that you'll have to stick with canon's own. :S

/me sticks with laser printers.
