or you might not be able to get one if you live in the US.

RAMBUS has won the suite and the ITC is calling for a ban on the import of some products containing nVidia chips. I don't know what those products include, but either way this isn't good.

If this does cause a ban it will mean a shortage of nVidia cards which will probably mean a jump in the cost of 58xx series cards again.

Got my 2nd 460 on the way already.....

was thinking of a total of 4, but don't want to buy 2 more right now

Thx for the heads up Blah!!

Looks like nVidia is going to pay license fees to RAMBUS to curb a ban:

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The U.S. International Trade Commission ruled Monday that graphics-chip maker Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) infringed patents held by Rambus Inc. (RMBS) and said it will issue an order that bars the importation of some Nvidia products into the U.S.

After the ITC announced its decision, Nvidia said it will pay to license Rambus' technology.

This will allow us and our partners to continue our business under the terms of that ...

Bloody disgusting if you ask me. RAMBUS are literally just around to sue people nowadays. Their tech is oldhat and anything derived from it could be considered entirely new tech IMO.

RAMBUS pisses me off like no other. If IIRC, RAMBUS was in JEDEC, but pulled out at the last minute when specs for RAM were being discussed. They then patented everything that was talked about at the JEDEC meetings.

If my memory is right, then RAMBUS is nothing but patent trolls. They are just as bad as SCO!

If you had something that belonged to you and some one used it or stole it without paying for it you would do exactly the same. It's called business dude.

I knew someone was gonna say that, and while it's true, it still sucks for a once proper hardware company just sitting there not innovating anything and just looking to sue other companies who are trying to pushing technology on.

^ I agree with this.

It's really not like that. RAMBUS is run by crooks. The patents they hold aren't something they thought of. They were standards discussed in JEDEC. RAMBUS dropped out of the group and patented those ideas. Memory technology today are still based on those ideas. They saw an opportunity to make money by suing over something they didn't even think of. They are scum and vultures. This is the major flaw with our patent system. It doesn't protect the inventor it makes money for the party with the best lawyers.
