... but will it run Crysis!? ^^

Hello all!

I am rather new to this forum, but look forward to get some response and hopefully helpful ideas to my built!

What I am going for is an absolute killer! I've always wanted to built one and now I've got the time and the money.

My budget is 2000 euro ('ish more is a possibility ^^).

What I have for consideration:

Case - CM Storm Trooper

Case fan exchange - Noctua NF-S12B

PSU - Corsair AX 750W*

SSD - Crucial M4 256GB

GPU - MSI GeForce GTX 680 2GB

CPU Cooler - Corsair H100 Hydro

CPU Cooler boost - 2x Noctua NF-F12 fans

Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-V*

CPU - Intel i5-2500k*

RAM - 2x Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz 4GB

Monitor - Dell 24" U2412M (I really want IPS!)

Keyboard - Corsair Vengeance K90

Purchased! Just had a look at the review of IB this morning and knew I was ready to make a decision. This will be the last update in this thread. Will make a build post when I get my PC!

Thank you all very much for your kind help!

*updated with Z77 motherboard instead of the old MSI... I am convinced! ^^

*updated with a downgrade to i5 2500k, since I've dropped the upgrade package!

*updated with the AX 750 instead of the HX. Fully modular ftw!

If you want a slightly cleaner/tidier build maybe go for a fully modular PSU. The AX series are highly rated and you can buy individually sleeved cables to further enhance the look of your rig. I know a few people here who have purchased the cables and are extremely happy (I'm looking at you Tharionos

).

An alternative to the SSD you've chosen could be the Mushkin Chronos, which is cheaper than the M4 in the UK at least (don't know about the prices in Denmark). Nonetheless if you can't get the Chronos at a lower price the M4 is an awesome SSD.

Just to clarify it is the K (unlocked) version of the processor you are purchasing, or will you not be overclocking?

I have an IPS monitor and they are the danglies to say the least, you will not be disappointed at all

As for the rest of the build it looks top notch to me

Hello Yassarikhan! Thank you for that incredible fast respond! I was actually also considering a fully modular PSU and it's great that you mention a possibility in the AX series I will look further into that!

The Mushkin are a tad expensive in DK and I have really good experience with Crucial so think that's what I'll be going for =)

It is of course the 2600k. I'll just add it to the post ^^

Thanks again!

. Have you considered the Z77 boards + new IB cpu's or have you been put off by the early results?

I have indeed been scared away from the IvyBridge for now, think I'm just going to wait for 2013 and see what happens =) Also I expect the Sandy to drop in price soon, so that is my main goal for the time being. I have considered the Z77 boards and they do look amazing, I am just a bit thrilled about the upgrade package as mentioned, since it will save me a bit of cash - which can of course be used on further upgrades ^^

Yeah the IB CPU's don't look too desirable atm and the performance difference between SB and IB is so small that it's not really worth waiting imo.

Okee dokey.

Looking at the memory, you've linked to something different that the description, but if you're gaming, I like this stuff:

I'd need a reason to go over 8g. Speed and the timing is good. (doesn't look fancy tho

The RAM is a part of the upgrade package and I just updated the post. It's 4x the corsair ram modules. I have actually considered the modules that you are linking to, but found them just a bit expensive in my country.

In response to an earlier coment. I have the HX750 and it is fully modular apart from the 8pin power cable which you are going to need anyway so if it is a considerable saving over the AX750w i would stick with it

That is really nice to know and I think based on that information I will stick with my choice of PSU. Appreciate the input! =)

I wasn't fully aware mate, sorry about that. If all the attached cables are going to be used, then it makes sense to buy the HX version as money will be saved. I just suggested a fully mod and in particular the AX series because of the individually sleeved cables. Although adamino could just buy some extensions and be done with it

I was originally going to go with the TX but when i found out that it wasn't modular i looked into the AX and HX. The AX is gold rated and fully modular and the 750w HX is silver rated with one fixed cable being the 8pin connector. Those appear to be the main differences but obv they are all great PSUs

you can look at my rig gallery to see the HX if you like (link in sig)

Sorry I meant to say HX in my post (edited now). I've seen your rig, it's very nice to say the least. After the cleanup it looks much better

I'll say two things:

1) Very good specs there mate, your going to enjoy the rig when its built
smile.png

2) It will play Crysis

Would love see a build log if you are going to do one

that build would be blazing but if it was me i would change the gpu to a 7970 if could get it for the right price. other than that the rig will be awsome. keep us updated with pictures.

To be exact my choice of PSU is actually gold rated as stated here it was upgraded. But yeah will probably go with the initial choice =)

Just a small point - I have a 2600K with a P67 board and the same XMS3 ram. If I personally was to do it over, I would not buy the XMS3 instead go for something like Mushkin. Just my small piece of input as I have found (used both in the same rig) that the XMS3 is a pig to overclock above 1600Mhz. This of course is not a problem if you are happy with 1600 but for me benching wise, the XMS3 was the weak link in my setup.

Carl

Hmmm that's weird, cos to run the memory at over 1600, you just use a profile. That's how I've done it.

What mobo you using ? Cos I've heard many setup issues from non-Asrock mobos. (which is why I promote them right now)

P67 Asus Sabertooth B3. I have been able to run it at 1866 but it was unstable even at 2T timing or when I loosened the timing manually. Selecting a profile of anything above 1866 and no boot. The XMS3 is also rated at 1.65v although I am able to run mine OK at 1.55v @ 1600 on the stock timings. When I plugged in a pair of Mushkin, I simply selected the 2133 profile and bammm, boots fine at low volts and my bench scores improved straight away. I get the impression that RAM designed to run at 1.5v is better suited to SB setups.
