Bulldozer Questions

i keep getting mixed responses about the the bulldozer. i currently have a 1156 i7 860 and looked in to the 1155 series. the 1155 series dosn't offer enough of a in crease to get. and i cant ever afford a 2011 plat form on my disability. im looking at amd bulldozer. some say its awesome some say is horrible. so my question is with what i do below will a bulldozer and radion set up be the best bang for the buck for me o a single 1920x1080 display. dont get me wrong would love a samsung md230x3 one day. but intell and nvidia just going to kill me in upgrade cost. my late brother (ChrisRay) was the intel & nvidia person in my family, i was always using amd and radeon. i switched after my brother died but i had more problems with intell then i ever did amd. also my evga p55 ftw 200 seams to have faults in it. i thought my ram is bad but its both ram and board giving me blue screen. i need a new build even though his one functions im just not sure how long it has.

let me explain what i do on my computer. i use it for music/online djing, torrents, multimedia, light gaming (second life|final fantasy xiv|wow|eq2), and building websites.

Get Ivy Bridge. Its launched in March/April, and the prizes will be very similar to todays Sandy B. Think we will see a 15-20% performance gain over SB.

keep hering bad about bulldozer, just not sure why ivy bridge is 1155 isnt it. my curent cpu is 1156

edit: id like to ask if bulldozer is beter then my i7860. im not a heavy gamer i need good multi purpous cpu and herd bull dozer is good for that.

these are the 2 amd boards i was thinking of that be good for my multimedia needs as well as my light gaming. gaming isnt the main purpose of machine, want reliability and lots multi purpose.

1.) ASUS Sabertooth 990FX

2.) MSI 990FXA-GD80

You need to read some reviews and compare the results. Tbh i dont know why you are thinking about getting the BD. It is well known that it is a massive disapointment. Even the Phenom II beats the the BD in many benches. Ive gattered 3 reviews for you:

Tom's Hardw..

TTL's review

Anandtech

If i were you id just get the 2500k/2600k/2700k or wait for IB to be launched. Maybe the 2500k is enough for your useage? Im using that1 myself and im really happy with it. I have been using the 1090T phenomII 4,1 ghz oc before that and the 2500k makes the hole system faster and great fps in games. Also lower power consumption, less heat and better overcklock.

Found one more comparison and you can use the Intel Core i5 750 and I7 920 to compare against the BD.

Its in Norwegian but u can just use google translater if there are words that is hard to understand. Hardware.no

Remember to read the conclusions/final words of the reviews. Good luck

still run into the same problem my evga p55 ftw 200 is mesed up took me 4 hours when i woke up to get cpu runing. i need a new bord wich i figure makes ence to upgrde since most p55 high end boards are dificult to find reinforcs the idea of upgrading. im thinking msi or asus sabertooth for longevity. i wonder if they make a z68 version of the sabertooth

will the asus SABERTOOTH P67 be compatble with the IB Chips or would i be beter off geting a msi Z68A-GD80 (G3). im looking at miltery speck boards for the longevity. why i like thee saber tooth and msi boards

edit: seams the msi has 2 pcie 3.0 ports as well and the saber tooth dosn't is pcie 3 something i should consider for new series of gpu coming out soon with the ib chip???

edit: apparently the msi MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) gives me 2 pcie 3.0 and 4 sata iii ports for 3tb storage drives. plus i have room for a Hauppauge Colossus and a wireless card for a remote printer. would that be a good platform??

They got it in P67 and its alovely MB :=)

If you get a P67 mb, then you dont get lucid virtu, Intel Smart response technology and the use of integrated graphics. I bet you use a dedicated gpu anyways.

The P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 and the Deluxe model is also nice MB's from Asus.

The IB cpu's are not on the cpu compatible list on the MSI MB or the Asus pro mb. I believe the gen3 mb's will have a bios update that enables the usage of IB cpu's. I would check that further to be sure that the MB you getting can use the IB, if that is what you want

G80

Edit: The IB cpu's will work on 1155 mb's in the 6 and 7 series(p67/z68/z77)

Remember that the I7 860 doesnt work on the 1155 chipsets

. If you thinking of getting a IB cpu, i would wait until the z77 mobos are out.

think the sabertooth is only one that dosent have the pcie 3.0 of the 3 boards im looking at. but it dose have a heck of a heatsink and it will alow me to run 2 pcie x1 cards with a dual dedicated gpu setup im wondering if the MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) will give me all i need. my corsar case as 4 satta iii hot swap bays and the MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) has 4 sata iii ports. with media encoding the extra storge space wold be really nice

The G65 has 4x intel sata II ports, 2x Intel sata III ports and 2x marvcell sata III. Also 2x pcie 16x slots and 3x pcie x1. Are you planing on using raid0 on your hdds? you could use SSD on the sata 3 ports and raid0 with normal hdd's using the sataII.

I forgot to say that the lucid virtu/quick sync is a really nice feature if you convert media files alot. You need to use the hdmi on the mb to enable it though. Ive been using this feature alot on my Maximus Gene-Z mb and it does convert files 50% faster

Most of these mb's only have 2x sata III ports from Intel, 4x sata II (intel) and 2x S3 from marvell or others.

The G80 is pretty expensive. You could get a Asus Deluxe Z68/gen3 or a Gigabyte UD5 for that ammount. The Gigabyte mb isnt out with Gen3 yet, but im sure they will launch them soon.

yes i relly like the MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) for it having 2 PCI Express 3.0 x16 as well as 3 PCI Express x1 (2 available with dual gpus installed). it also has 4 SATA 3Gb/s & 4 SATA 6Gb/s. i would use 4 sata iii 3tb for storage some kinda sata ii boot drive may my old 2TB and at least 1 bluray burner. you can see th board by looking at link below. but i wonder if i should just replace my ram and hope my p55 holds and get a new thx sound card, 4 port sata iii control card, and a Hauppauge Colossus.

What cpu are you planing on buying? If i were you id try and use what u got atm, and just replace cpu/mb/ram when IB is launched. Its only 3 months away.

where u hearings its awesome? its blooming terrible its ICP is a mega cripple mate the 860 u have will be about as fast so steer clear of it mate

bulldozer is a server chip NOT a consumer cpu dont be another fool and buy one, i managed to pick up a sabertooth 990fx for my 1090T for £70 cause the guy wanted shot of it cause he was so furious amd had fooled him into buyin a board early and the cpu failed to deliver

my current system is unstable took me 4 hours to get it going this morning. i know ram is bad maybe the mobo too, but her are my current specks.

i7 860

4gb ram

evga p55 ftw 200

dual sli gtx 280's beta tester cards

silverstone st1500

250gb|400gb|1tb|1tb|2tb hdd's

samsung bluray drive

corsair 800d

run memtest and that will tell u if its memory thats the issue, then use other tests to them wittle out whats up and if its the board replace/rma it and keep what u have if anything get a new gpu rather than cpu much more benefit to be seen there

Buy 2x4gb new ram and see if it sorts out the problem. You can use those sticks later with IB(dual channel). Did you run mem test on your current sticks?

well i ran memtest while i was out getting my cat from vet and getting grocery's when i returned 4 hours later 214% tested and 0 errors. guess that confirms my worst fears, my evga p55 ftw 200 mobo is shot. i looked for p55 and no one really sells a gaming p55 anymore. i guess ill upgrade to the MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) and a sandy core for now then get ivy when it releases. just really sucks i have to do that big a rebuild

ull really need to watch compatibility as originally it was said that ivy wouldnt work in older sandy boards cause of the new chipset but then heard bits and peices sayin it might

She's upgrading to a Gen 3 board, she should be fine.
