Building Quad Core Intel Machine, Help Appreciated

should be ablt to get what you need with £500

cpu -£150

Hdd - £50

dvd drive - £20

ram- £80 -£100

Still leaves you £200 ish for which ever board you choose

thanks guys this is helping a lot. i may have to dissapear off these boards for a bit while i wait for my money sources to increase. ill let you know how things are when i can afford to make the upgrade

£700 is a good amount of money for a build.

My build just cost me a little over £800. And it will own :)

excluding the monitor

in all fairness im thinking on it, im also contemplating water cooling the graphics card as i heard the 8800gt's get very hot

any ideas?

Just a quick post, ive been reading around the web that the Asus motherboards have a tendency to get very hot on the stock heatpipes, and also that Asus have a very bad QA on some of its boards namely the striker extreme 680i board

Can anyone give me adivce?

yes that makes sense, are the intel chipsets as bad?

i guess what im basically asking is if want my board to have a long life am i going to have to buy extra fans for all the motherboard parts?

oh also can anyone suggest some ram, reasonably cheap but good for overclocking and with a low latency (ive been looking at corsair but its a minefield to choose from)

Ah, i did look at that, got a good review in custom pc (if we are talking the same OCZ ram) im planning on running a 64 bit system.

One thing that im finding annoying about ram is for an extortionate amount of money more you can get very similar ram, and from some benchmarks not much improvement. is expensive ram actually worth it? i was looking at:

two kits of the above

Or:

Fair enough, Did you have a bad experience with it?

The reason im swinging towards it is because both my friends who have recently built PC's used it and have had no problems, plus it is also reccomended for usage with Asus motherboards apparently.

ive been looking at the formula, and also i looked at hte new 780i asus chipsets, but i want a few more solid facts before i definately get one on pre order. ive looked at the striker extreme 680i, and the Asus P5N32-E SLI NF680i, i know very little about p35 boards, but the p5k boards look ok
