[Build Log] Accent

Wow, you're really tearing that sucker apart! :) Nice work so far! And some really nice gear too!

Thanks! I can't wait for the rest of my parts to come in so it can look even better. On the topic of modding, do you happen to know why the designers chose 20 mm fan spacing for the top but 15 mm fan spacing for the bottom?

Also as an update for everyone:

I added cabling to get everything running just to say I did. There are cables all over the place though so no pics. :) The temps on my CPU are fantastic, (which you would expect, cooling it with 700mm worth of radiators) On air, clocked at 4.5Ghz, at load, it was hovering around 75C. On water, it's no more than 50C. I'm not going to do any more OCing until I put the GPU into the loop.

Isn't that annoying? My 650D had 20mm spacing for it's 140mm fan mounts on top too, but literally 0 radiators have a 20mm spacing on them. I had to drill out the holes just like you did. Sometimes it seems like the designers for these huge companies don't really think about the small things like that...

I'm looking at sleeved cable extensions for my 24 pin and 2 6 pin PCIe. My current favorites are the NZXT extension. Any comments on these or others?

This is why I really like buying from Sidewinder Computers:

I ordered two Bitspower L's, but apparently they were out of stock and the site hadn't didn't update correctly. Instead of canceling that part of the order, Gary (the owner) called me and asked if he could substitute the L's for a T with a plug. I said that was fine. Then today I got this email:

UPS picked up early on me before I came in today. I sent your order out Express mail and covered the extra $7.xx.
I sent you two Enzotech T's and two Bitspower Stop plugs to make them L's.
Let me know if this does not work for your needs,

Best Regards
Gary Stofer

Gary is a badass. I can totally vouch for Sidewinders as well. He has some awesome products that are hard to find anywhere else, and he's just a great all around guy.

My pump mount came in yesteday and it looks great except it's defintely not the red color in the pictures. It's more of a maroon color. (I'll post pictures later) I'm kind of annoyed at that, but nothing I can do about it now. Anyways, I'm planning on painting it myself. It's powder coated so I'll be cleaning, sanding, cleaning, priming, painting. Any suggestions on paint/primer brands/types? I've heard good things about Rustoleum.

If you get Rustoleum, do NOT get the wide-mouthed cans. Opt for the standard cans. I dunno what it is, but the paint in the widemouth cans is utter garbage. Stay away from these: http://cdn.overclock.net/8/82/570x417px-LL-829e02db_Rustoleum-Paint1.jpeg

I've used Rustoleum on several modding projects, and it always works great. Just be sure to get a primer and put 3-4 coats down, then paint 3-4 coats. Then add your choice of clear coat (matte, satin, etc) to seal it up.

Moar updates!!

To start, I apologise for taking so long to do more updates. I was busy last weekend and then this week I was watching paint dry (literally). More on that in a bit.

My PWM fan splitters came in. This enables me to have my radiator fans all be controlled by the BIOS.

Unfortunately, they only came in x5 or x3, so I needed to splice the two 3's together for the top radiator fans. Couple pin pulling and wrapping of wires, and re-insertion. Don't worry, I'm going to come back and solder those all together when I do my sleeving.

My pump mount came in as well. But, as you would guess, the paint is not anywhere close to what the picture showed. I wanted red and got some dark maroon color. My picture doesn't show it well, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

Anyway, I got some sandpaper and Rustoleum and went to work.

Sometimes I wish I didn't live in an apartment and had a full garage to do this work in. Needless to say, I'm going to have to wash the floor of my porch. (It didn't get painted. It's just the dried paint that got overshot by the spayer)

And the waiting game.... 24-48 hours until full cure....

Done!

(Once again, cameras do a terrible job at picking up reds. It's fire engine red in real life)

Now I can FINALLY do my tube routing with my new 45/90 degree rotary fittings

I'm really happy with the way the tubing routing came out. Especially since the tube from the bottom rad to the cpu will be cut down when my new video card comes. On that note, I'm 87 in the EVGA Step-Up queue. I've been going down about 50 each week, so expect a 680 under water in about 2 weeks. :)

I don't know how I feel about the color of the water in the tubes. I would prefer it darker, but I've already added 25 drops of Mayhem dye and I don't want to super-saturate the loop. I know it's partly due to my tubing (they're a tad cloudy) but lately all the other brands have been having huge problems. (*Cough* Primochill *Cough*). I could use colored tubing and just dye for the color in the radiator, but same problem as before (and somewhat worse since only certain brands have colored tubing) What company to choose for tubing? (I'm using Duralene atm)

With the main loop now done, I'm moving on to lighting and sleeving. I already have the lighting supplies, so I'll probably work on that while the sleeving supplies are shipping.

As always, feel free to comment, ask questions, etc.
