Budget ultrawide (3440x1440) indecision (AOC/Dell)... help!

Been wanting to upgrade to ultrawide for quite some time. Budget is limited as I'll need a new graphics card as well to drive it as I only have a 7950 boost at the moment. Will be dropping a 1070 (probably strix oc) in my system at the same time.

I have been seriously looking at the AOC u3477pqu as it's the cheapest 3440x1440 screen around and has had good reviews. I had seen it for £470, but now it's gone up by £30 so I've started to look and see if there is anything else I could stretch to and have seen the Dell u3415w for just over £600, so a difference of £100, although stretching budget wise, may be worth it for the curve and the dell warranty.

Obviously I realise that these screens are both 60hz and don't have g-sync, but the X34 or PG348Q are too far out of reach for me price wise, with needing a new graphics card as well. Also I mainly play racing games (assetto corsa, etc), and very rarely play fps games so the 60hz/5ms should be fine for me. Also from the benchmarks I've seen, you'd really need more than a 1070 to make use of a faster screen.

Really interested to hear thoughts on which I should go for as they both have good reviews. I guess the question is: does the curve make enough of a difference to justify the extra £100?

Thanks,

Dave

The AOC should be ok I had some of their screens for awhile and they were fine. Oh and Welcome to the forums :)

I was in the same boat as you, in the end I got the dell. So many friends speak highly of it, as I dont play much fps then i am ok. Currently on this rig then i am only running a fury x, as i am waiting for VEGA or the 1080 ti.

AOC has the same panel and internals as the original LG's (34UM95 if I remember right) so you can't really go wrong. LG still have some cheaper options if you don't want to go QHD - for racing games you won't notice it a lot but for anything else the higher res is certainly the way to go.

They're both really nice panels. I think Chrazey on the forums may have the Dell? I could be wrong he went through a couple of ultra wides to find the right one I think.

You shouldn't miss G-sync too much if you set Adaptive Vsync globally then disable Vsync in game. I run a 70hz monitor and I did that and it's frikking awesome (like butter on a pop tart awesome).

Glad to hear you got some minor memories of me hehe :p

I never got any Dell ultrawides unfortunately, but I did have the X34. But when overclocked to 100Hz it had bad coil whine. So couldn't stand it and returned it. Specially for the insane price they're asking... It better be perfect.

I'm currently waiting for the X34P to drop though :)

I have got to say that the Del Ultrawide is AWSOME.... the colours are fantastic and the slight curve is very nice. I was hooked the first time I put it on, there is no way I might go back to 1080p or a 16:9 monitor now.

Ultra Wide might not be for some as there are black bars on the side dor example on most youtube videos etc but that is no problem for me at all as the screen is so massive.

This is the BEST buy for me in a long time, its hard to shell out so much money for a monitor at first but its worth every euro...
