Firefox might fall behind a bit on benchmarks, but in terms of customisation and addons, in my opinion, it can't be beat.

Same here.

Thank you AdBlock Plus. :D

Well as an example, I'm viewing this on IE6 (*of sorts) from work, which is neither obsolete or inferior. Then u have home users who could be on IE7 or 8. This is like 6.99999.

If the host of the webpage, intentionally or unintentionally has malware coded in his page and you unknowingly download it, that's fine?

Safety, Security, and anti-hairloss add-on's are not mere candy.

We get about 1 call every 3 months (if that) for malware/something out of, pushing, 3000 un-pc-skilled users.

If u want to get malware or viruses on ur pc, ur gonna get them sooner or later.

I think you are rather missing the point of OC3D then Rast. Yes IE will load a webpage, but that doesn't mean it's the best, fastest, or most customisable way to load it.

You can perform most computer tasks on a standard beige box, but who would want to?

No, ur missing the point and branching off into another direction.

The point was made that it was either obsolete or inferior.

.. continue ..

dunno why you would choose to use IE when you actually know about decent alternatives (anyone who iv met, computer literate or not, who knows there are different browsers generally uses something different to IE)

Looking at the futuremark browser benchmark, IE is also the lowest score

but I thought that IE did not follow the true protocol with display web sites(or something along those lines)

Obsolescence is the state of being which occurs when a person, object, or service is no longer wanted even though it may still be in good working order. Obsolescence frequently occurs because a replacement has become available that is superior in one or more aspects.

I would definitely put IE in that catagory. It's not as safe1, it's slower2, and it's not as customisable as most browsers (IE8 lets you use some addons).

Also, I don't think I did miss the point, you asked why only 2 people had voted for IE. That was answered (it's a technology forum where people tend not to stick with pre loaded bloatware). If you like IE then good for you, but it seems most people - who voted - don't.

"cos IE is either obsolete or inferior"

Explains why it's not bizarre that a free-with-OS browser is being used by an infinitecimal part of the community ?

It still remains as being a bizarre situation, whereas if u merely said it was a bizarre situation and IE is just crap, iyo (or in-their-opinion in this case), u'd probably be correct ;)

No my friend, I explained it wasn't Bizzare because, we're at OC3D, where the majority seem to be educated about their options, and more often than not, what we see is extreme systems ;)

So why power that Bugatti Veyron with a table spoon of petrol?

As I said before, I hardly think it's all that bizarre that a forum such as this one would have a disproportionate amount of people not using IE. If this was a regular site, I'd agree that it's curious, but this is a site for people who don't leave things on stock and who know that there are better alternatives -Which browser you'd choose depends what you're after, but I can't think of any use where IE is better than an alternative.

It doesn't.

IE 6, which many people still use, interprets the box model wrong.

IE 7 doesn't support all of the CSS2 selectors

IE 8 hardly has any of the CSS3 selectors in.
