Broke my damn Deskstar today...

In a way. It still works really, but it is broken. I was working with some cabling whilst installing my new gfx as it requires a PCI-E power connector (7600GT didn't) and while rearranging the SATA power cable to my hard drive it bent down a bit and snapped off the plastic power connector on the drive itself!! I was peeved to say the least, it didn't take much at all to break it clean off. It wasn't till about 2 minutes after that I had realized that they do put a 4 pix molex power slot on em too, which is a good thing or else I'd have been UUUUBER mad. So yeah, anyone ever had that happen? I'm thankful it didn't break the SATA data connector too, that would have really sucked. At least it still works!

Well, I had a sata cable break on me once, the little surrounding of the connect snapped clean off so it just wouldn't stick with out some finagaling, not quite as scary, but not a bottel of joy :D

Things like this happen, you've got to move on Frag. The molex is here for you. Embrace its aura of 12v-ness.

iv pulled my sata cord off my mobo once and off the whole sata connector from the mobo with it... and then the pins were bent too. sucks

I have never had it happen, but I have heard that they are very weak, hence some manufacuters like Wester Digital have their special cables.

Yeah Molex FTW, until you get a stubborn b@st, like I did.

Tryin to pull a Molex out of a HD once and the b@st would not budge. So decided to wrap the cable round my finger and pull. The wires and the metal ends came clean out of the plug, left the pug in place, which still would not budge

. Ended up having to take the whole drive out before I got the soddin thing out:rolleyes:

SATA cabling/connectors for both power and data, smacks of cheapness.

I can honestly say I've never broke one and I've been usin SATA drives for about 3 yrs now. I've had some pretty close calls though. Just gotta be careful :).

Agreed...never broke one of mine :)

I have had PATA drive connectors get stuck so firmly that I need pliers to get them out. I seem to remember having an old DVD-ROM drive that had a PATA 4-pin connector SO stuck in it that a couple of pins ripped out of the plastic shroud on the wire and remained stuck in the drive connector. After some fiddling with it, I got them out.

I`ve had a 40 pol connector stay stuck in the drive with it`s teeth grinning at me and me left with a limp 40/80 pol ribbon flopping about in my hands - the head of the connector flinging across the room.
