BOOTMGR is missing

Hey guys,

So I reinstalled my PSU today after trying to switch it in the store, but they wouldn't accept it.

So plugged all the cables into it and then started the PC and got "BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

Any ideas on what can cause this?... when I look in the BIOS no harddrives or SSDs are visible. I have a Samsung 840 PRO 256GB, Corsair Force Series 3" 180GB, WD Raptor 150GB and WD Caviar Green 3TB.

It just says to go into Advanced and them into the something like CSM (?) in order to find some bootable devices.

But after I plug in my HDDs, it says "BOOTMGR is missing..." :(

I'm fucked :( ... please help me, when it comes to BIOS etc, I'm the biggest newbie ever! :'(

Is my PC broken?, do I need to reinstall Windows?...

Could be a number of things:

- hard drives don't have any power,
- you knocked a SATA connection from the hard drives or motherboard
- your bios cleared itself (although the battery should have kept the bios) and the boot order is all wrong

Identify the hard drive that your OS is installed on and double check that everything is connected properly, and disconnect the connection to your other hard drives as it'll force the motherboard to only select that one.

You weren't running a raid array where you?

Can the Samsung 840 be dead? (The OS drive), if for example the end of the power cable, which is plugged into the PSU, being plugged into the wrong one, can it fry it?...

And no, no arrays for me mate.

So what do I do if the BIOS cleared itself?... As there are no drives detected in the BIOS or boot tab either :(

It could be dead, it depends on the resilience to wrong voltage of the SSD. What power supply did you use? You did use the cables that came with the new one rather than your existing cables, as they aren't interchangeable between companies.

I'd be looking in to the power connections rather than the bios, the backup battery will likely have held the settings (check the date when in the bios, it's usually a hint that it's been reset if it's wildly wrong).
