Boot up/Registry cleaner ?

Hi all.

My system is launching some stuff at boot up that I don't want ( particularly an Apple mobile device thingy that I have never and will never need ! )

I can find a load of apps via Google to clean this up but I thought I would ask you guys if there is a specific one that everyone considers best to use.

Thanks :wavey:

I've used an application called reg. clean before. And that used to remove things like orphaned files from my system and helped keep windows load times down. Google it and give it a go, it hasn't caused me any problems.

I use AShampoo WinOptimizer for this. Has a section where you can delete autostart entries from the registry safely, and get rid of all those annoying tray icons.

have a look at autoruns. you can find it on microsoft technet. great little tool that lets you look at all auto-running stuff.

also has a context menu option to search the web for info on stuff so as to help you decide whether to turn it off/delete it, or leave it well alone!

Easiest way to manage start up applications is to just type "msconfig" in Run. In the window that opens up, go to the Startup tab and uncheck what you don't want :)

Another little tip for a faster boot up is to clear your prefetch (files that are frequently used and set to load at startup). To do this..

1. Go to C:\Windows\Prefetch and delete everything inside.

2. Open Run and type "regedit"

3. Nav to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters"

4. Open the registry called "EnablePrefetcher" and change the value to 2.

Now reboot and voila. The first reboot after doing this will be slightly slower as it prefetches important system files. But your next boot should be noticeably faster :)

CrapCleaner is the best by far, IMO.

To get rid of startup tosh, MSCONFIG. Type msconfig into the Run Box and then click on the Startup tab and then some more unrelevant stuff in the Services tab.
