Hmm odd, Could be that the GPU isn't kicking in properly.

Best bet is to ask on the Nvidia forums as you might get an answer from a driver dev.

but your rig is a lot faster :)

i'm going to go over it again with driver sweeper and with a bit of luck it's work.

Not really a lot faster, My CPU is just the better thermal compound version of yours and the 980 is just the 780 Ti with better power usage/thermals ^_^

i still think people who went from a 780ti to a 980 for gaming wasted their money :P

also my card it a 780 just overclocked to the same level as a ti (i think)

right i did all that driver sweeping and still have the issue but boots fine in safe mode.
now i'm thinking it's windows :(

anyone had this issues?

Where is the sound output from? Motherboard or HDMI via GPU? If its the motherboard I almost wonder if its a windows issue from the recent patches.

it's from a 3.5mm jack to an onkyo amp.
no new patches i've tried a system restore nothing...
it's fine in safe mode, to that leads me to believe it's something to do with windows.
i've done a health check with HD tune and the ssd and hdd are ok.

Not had that issue for a long time, remove all recent driver updates and reinstall them, including Audio and Chipset drivers. By remove I mean with DDU followed by a fresh install, if it persists just roll back to a driver platform that worked.

yeah i tried all that dude :(

for some reason the problem is now gone..... for now but i still want to get to the bottom of this issue..

Sorry, didn't see you had replied.
I think it could be something to do with your GPU as I don't think that the audio chip from the GPU is used in safe mode. I'd disable all audio from your GPU.

i only have the audio coming from the mobo dude..

might look in to getting a sound card, but at the mo i'm saving up for a new case.
