Blurring Still An Issue?

Hello.

I currently have a CRT which is on it's last legs, and am thinking of investing in a 19" TFT.

The thing is, I play a lot of games, some fast (FPS), some a bit more sedate (MMOs etc.). Is blurring still an issue when running a TFT outside of it's native resolution?

For instance, I play a little bit of DAoC. But 1280x1024 makes the icons too small for me, and I have to squint. Therefore I run it at 1024x768 so I can see it clearer. Would that cause blurring? I would never need to run a game lower than 1024x768.

What do I need to take into consideration with blurring? Is it response time?

Finally, would this monitor be good for gaming: http://ebuyer.com/UK/product/91303/rb/22371600935

I only have £150 to spend ($280), and I don't really want smaller than 19".

That monitor looks fine with an 8ms response time there shouldn't be any blurring. Also, you should still be able to see the icons on that monitor at the native res because everything is bigger because the monitor is bigger. But i don't for see any problems running at 1024 x 768.

Thanks for the help!

My current CRT is 19" as well, so the icons shouldn't be any bigger, should they?

I have also seen this one: http://ebuyer.com/UK/product/117211/rb/22371635366

It's got a better contrast ratio (550:1 on the Benq, 700:1 on this) and it's cheaper. But it looks like a "My First Computer" monitor :)

I know it's kinda up to personal preference when talking about looks, but would you go with that style if it meant having a better contrast ratio?

I'd get the BenQ - more of a trusted TFT

What res do you run at the moment? a 19" TFT will run at 1280 x 1024...unless it's a widescreen

I dont know if u can get them in the UK, but I am EXTREMELY happy with my new Sceptre 19" widescreen. It's got the perfect blend of response and clarity. No ghosting at all, super crisp display. Did I mention it was one of the very cheapest 19" TFT's on the market? :)

I did a quick check on GoogleUK, and it doesn't look like they do sell them in the UK.

Although, it does seem some monitors are over double the price in the UK compared to the US, so it might not be the cheapest over here.

Wirelessly posted (LG Fusic: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4719/1316; en; U; ssr))

seems that yall get the short end of the stick when it comes to computer parts. keep an eye out for sceptre displays, they are great. they are the former kings of crt's imo.

If you don't go above 8ms you should be fine. If you're like me, used a CRT for donkys years then you will notice a slight difference at first, but eventually you'll get used to it. Make sure you get one with a DVI input, if your video card has DVI out, a clearer picture than VGA. Watch out for "vertical sync" too, as having this enabled will make the top half of the screen update a split second before the bottom half, called "Image Tearing".

I've got a 17" AMW M179D and I find it to be a good monitor for everything.

;)

Well, I went for the Benq in the end. The website I bought it from (Ebuyer) has 54 customer reviews, and only a handful gave it less than 5/5 (somone gave it 1/5 because his didn't come with a DVI cable). The 19" TFT monitor with the next highest amount of reviews only has 14, and that one is the next model up from the one I bought :)

Would it be alright if I came back to this thread if I have any questions about the monitor once I get it (which should be tomorrow)? Or should I start a new thread to ask different questions?

Hope it all works out for ya mate! I got this 19" widescreen with 5ms response time recently and I couldn't be happier :D :

19" Widescreen

Makes everything look so much nicelr than my old 17" crt :)

If you don't go above 8ms you should be fine.

16ms is sufficient for most people, a 60hz refresh rate gives one image every 16.6ms

75hz gives one image every 13.3ms
