Blu Ray not likely to replace DVD for years

they cud really use it as a selling point for ps3 imo

boast about blu ray on ps3 - keep other players high

more sales direct to sony

DVD for me, it's all cost really, and on a 19" monitor DVD looks fine to me when I'm sat back a little from the screen, I can't see myself going to blu-ray unless it dramatically drops in price or i come into posession of a fortune. On a nice 1080p screen it does look excellent, but you need that screen in the first place. Also the analysts are correct, I believe one of the main factors that puts people off is lack of titles, pretty much anything can be had on DVD nowadays.

Blu Ray is the future, give it time.. it will be everywhere.

Plus, most things can be had on blu ray now.. which is impressive. I hate DVDs when watching them on a PC, they look blurred. So Blu Ray will be a welcome change.

But once again price comes into the issue.

Blue-Ray is still too expensive. There are also other technologies out there that could slow down blue-ray, like the experiments with dvd's with multiple layers, and lasers that can cope with a bigger density of information’s and so provide more space. And I think, but I'm not shure, that you don’t even have to change your dvd player to read them. We will see what the future brings.

Yeah my girlfriend bought me The Golden Compass (Nothern Lights) on Blu Ray the other day... It does look mighty fine. Don't think I'll be buying DVD's anymore. Still use them for backing up vids though as they are nice and cheap.

blu-ray is cool :)

the name is cool

and i like the quality :)

all in all, a good, well rounded product, nothing less than you should expect from sony :)

Blu Ray is fantastic but Sony really have got to lower those prices to sensible levels if they want to start dominating the market

BR is pretty darn good.

Imo, maybe this time next year, new rigs will be built with br/rw whereas u`d automagically say dvdrw now. They won`t be $40/$50 by then, but they`ll be priced enough to be seriously considerable.

.. then the newer "violet"-ray will be the new thing, or something, with 100g capacity, and be in a ps4... (think we all know the market) ... 1080p/i will be replaced by 2160 as a new SuperHD ...

hehe
