Black widow or das ultimate

I am going to get a mechanical keyboard and the black widow is only 80$ but das ultimate is 130$.

I was wondering if I should go for the black widow or I should go for das ultimate. I hear the black widow has too many problems specifically with the keyboard hitting alt keys and pushing them in a lot. The das ultimate has no problem but its expesnive. Should I go for the more expensive or do you think I should go for black widow ? I dont like getting stuff with problems.

I have the Black Widow since they were released and I have had no problems with it at all.

What you need to decide is:

1) Will you be alright having no letters/symbol on your keys when gaming/typing.

2) Will you/do you ever use macros. As the BW has 5 dedicated macro keys and some pretty decent software.

I dont really use macros much (my current keyboard has 18) and yeah I dont mind not having letters. if i did I would go for the proffesional instead of ultimate but ok I might go for a black widow instead. THey use the same cherry mx blue switches so it should be fine.

It's just nice to have a couple if you ever come across a need to use them

Blackwidow shouldn't let you down

Haha I wish I had got the ultimate because of the backlit keys and the earphone jack. Depends whether the money is an issue or not I suppose.

Idk i just keep getting really worried. I am seeing a bunch of videos and reviews of people with problems and some of them are things like the spacebar getting stuck some people have had keys that werent the right letter (ie. f9 instead of 9 on the keyboard) and people have buttons that dont respond to touch. and one of the problems thats getting to me is the rollover. On this keyboard I can press 6 keys at once and it gets all of them people are saying the razer one gets 2.

can you please do something for me. type a as asd asdf asdfg asdfgh and tell me if it all shows up (maybe not in order but like push them down at the same time)

here is what it looks like when i push them at the same time on my keyboard

a sa sad afsd gfsda gfhsda and once i get to more than 6 letters it starts forgetting some or only showing 2 ect. but what do you get on your razer?

Just an FYI, the DAS keyboard can come with key symbols, it's an option

The Razer allows for up to 6 key presses, via PS/2. Don't get a Razer mechanical, my friend has two Widows, and like you said, it's already starting to have problems. Get a better built mechanical keyboard, you don't need flashy lights. But, if you do have the need for macro keys, as in you use them now, then get one. If you don't have macro keys, I don't suggest getting used to them.

I've said it before and even the reviews on OC3D here have stated it, the SteelSeries 7H and 6Gv2 are amazing keyboards, and they're just plain and simple. You could even go onto eBay and pick up a Model M, which is probably the most durable keyboard ever made, you can put it through washing machines and it'll still work.

EDIT: Have a search for Unicomp as well, they're the people who continued making the Model M design. If you don't care much for looks they're definitely the keyboard to buy if you want mechanical. They're about $50 AUS as well, so half the price of the SteelSeries and Razer counterparts

I belive you mean 7G not 7H and it seems that uses the spring mechanical keyboard? interesting 6Gv2 looks very nice however I prefer tactile feedback and clickyness cherry mx black doesnt seem to have much tactile feedback .

Those dont seem to be _the_ buckling springs though?

that model M distributor seems pointless as there is practically nothing for sale there

unicomp seems expensive but maybe.

Thanks for showing me those steelseries.

EDIT: I see the 7g is also cherry black I was wrong.

I just see no point in mechanical if it doesn't have that tactile feedback. does it still really feel significantly different from a regular membrane keyboard?

someone on teamliquid forums said that the steelseries 7g was hard to press and he felt like he would get carpel tunnel faster using it (maybe an exageration) but he stopped using the keyboard very quickly. Are mx black's really hard to press compared to the average membrane keyboard?

So one last question, looking at the das ultimate (don't worry about it being blank I know that and already have that in my head...I can type I don't need to worry about that.)Should I be worried of any problems when purchasing it? I looked all over and couldnt find a single real problem with it. 1 person mentioned how the rollover sorta has a mind of its own and to test it he pushed the at the same time over and over and it looked like this every time even though he knows he didnt push it in that order every time

However this is what my keyboard does right now so i really don't care

because it was never problem to me anyways.

The other problem is someone mentioned it wont work with windows 7 but then I looked over and people said it worked fine with windows 7.

Oh and my gaming consists 90% of starcraft 2 and from everything I have heard mx blues are the best for RTS games like starcraft 2. The blacks are more fit for the FPSs which i only play for fun. Starcraft 2 is the only game I play seriously.

I got the das keyboard ultimate model s

I will come back to this thread with info on what i think.

I chose it because i couldnt find any bad reviews and I can type without looking (proffesional keys wear off after a couple months apparently) and because from everythign i heard mx blue is the best for rts gaming (I felt cherry blues before and I loved it!)

Also I found one of the most abundant resources for mechanical keyboard views was teamliquid a site I go to all the time anyways because I am into sc2 a lot.

The keyboard arrived today and I love it

Oh geez, sorry man for not replying, my nets been all over the place. Yeah I can understand what you mean about the keys. They are slightly a bit tougher to push down, but like I said, if you want mechanical, definitely go the DAS. In regards to the Model M, they have a fair few that they distribute. Nearly all the Korean SC players use that keyboard

I personally play a lot of HoN myself, and occasionally play 2's 3's or 4's with my friends on SC2. Hope you enjoy the new keyboard
