Black screen after gaming, help!

Hi,

Hope this is the correct forum for this, if not sorry.

I recently got a new PC, about 2 weeks ago, first week I have had no problems with it, everything was running fine. But about a week ago I have come across a problem where my PC's screen will turn black and the sound will keep playing (if any sound). This started to happen only in games, but has also done it a couple of times outside of games such as browsing the internet. There are no error reports other than the PC had shut down unexpectedly, and nothing comes up on the screen, just goes black, screen shows it has lost connection and the sound will stop after 10 seconds of looping.

I have tried:

Sweeping the drivers and re-installing them.
Running Sapphire Trixx and setting fans @ 100% so cards stay below 60 degree's

I don't know what else I can do, since I didn't have this problem a week ago. Temperatures have never been higher than 80 on either card and I have also removed the overclock from them as well and tried increasing the voltage slightly while at stock clocks to see if it was a stability problem. The problem has also been getting more and more frequent, today it has done it at least once an hour, where as on the first time it done it, was only once a day.

Currently running the latest AMD driver out there (can't remember the number)

My specs are:

i7-3770K @ 4.6Ghz (CPU temps are only 50 - 60 degrees while playing so not cpu overheating)
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600Mhz
2 x MSi HD7970 Lightning boosted edition (Core 1150Mhz, Memory 1500Mhz)
Corsair AX1200
Asus Maximus V Formula
4 x Samsung 840 SSD's (not in raid)

Tried looking on the internet, but not found much helpful information, most people with same problem had their PC's overheating

Any help will be appreciated, thankyou :)

check your psu power connectors i had a simular issue and it was one of my pci:e connectors not in correctly after trouble shooting everything else including dropping cpu and ram etc to stock clocks...

the problem with mine was the connector was in but it hadnt clicked all the way so was loose.

Will give it a try tomorrow :) , also when you say PCI connector, do you just mean the power connectors to the card / PSU or do you mean the PCI slot as well?

mine was just the card side as i dont have a modular psu it could also be your overclock causing instability, i didnt think about the pci slot but that could also be an issue but very much doubt it.

also double check your bios and make sure pci:e is selected some z77 mobos have it off on default to use the onboard graphics this causes the issue you describe above with the black screen but normally when using hdmi off the gpu.
