[BL] Feronix goes ITX

Experimenting with the stock Corsair white braided cables and markers. This works surprisingly well, interesting...

Not a perfect first try, but the idea works and if I do one colour at a time while shielding the rest of the cables off and let it dry properly...

Edit;

Did a quick hair dryer test and the colours seem to fade a tiny bit in warm airflow conditions. This is a single layer with 10 minutes of drying though, I'm thinking that it's kinda the same concept as painting. Multiple layers and good drying should do.

I also found out I'm going to need new markers as my old black one turns out slightly purple-ish :p

Perhaps there's some sort of cloth markers that will do a better job.... But pretty impressed with that experiment so far...

Yep, just got back from the store! £5 on 2 markers, but they are heat and water resistant textile markers :D

Just skim read the whole thread, nice work !

Did you get Yosemite running OK?

Thank you mate :)

Did not update to Yosemite. It should work with my motherboard, but I mainly use the Mac OS bit for audio recording and audio/video editing. I use a slightly older MIDI keyboard that isn't compatible with Yosemite but a big part of the music process so I've decided to stick with Mavericks.

It's not really like Yosemite offers any useful features for me anyway if I'm honest.

Argh you're making me want Mavericks back !

Must say, Yosemite is kinda "Playskool". My sound and bluetooth all worked better in Mavericks too.

Awesome :) stroke of brilliant cheating. I very much like that =00=

Thanks!

I like to show simple mods that anyone can do in this build log to proof you don't need expensive high-end hardware, awesome modding skills and powertools to make a decent looking PC. I guess that's why people like it and it has this many views :)

Can you not switch back? Of course you'd need a complete format and reinstall...

Update

I FINALLY got my Corsair 24 pin in the mail. Found in available in one shop yesterday and immediately ordered it as it hadn't been in stock for months.

Let's tape that bad boy up! That will make my life a hell of a lot easier.

Hung it up. But wobbly but this is probably the best way. Side note - I decided not to colour them all the way until the end as the connectors don't line up exactly how the cables are, so there is a lot of entangling and you can't see the bottom bit anyway once it's in the build :)

Always start with the lighter colour! First layer of green:

Taped up the green as well to do the black streaks, don't want to get accidental black on my white or green cables!

Picture includes some free hair from my dog, that shit gets everywhere

Turned out pretty nicely, I'm pleasantly surprised :p

Also I apologize for my shitty phone camera and lighting that I'm stuck with right now, this photo makes the green cables look nearly white..

But luckily they aren't ;)

Updaaaaaaaaaaaaate

This morning I pulled the rig apart for a good clean and some long overdue updates!

Firstly, I put the custom cables in.
Scared me a bit when they said "AX1200/AXi Only" as I have an RM650 but after some checking and word from the Guv it seems they are the same cable. It's just that they were made before the RM series were released.

I checked the pins and they all seemed to have the same lay-out so I went for it. I couldn't get it to go in though, the plastic mouldings allowed for it to go it, but the pin got stuck on something. I inspected the pins on the PSU unit and noticed that one was bent. I bent it back et voilá.

I also decided (after pulling the front panel off) that a dust filter for the airflow cutout I made in the first post of this thread was MORE than necessary. So I made one:

It's not the most aesthetically pleasing thing in the world, but it works well!

You can't see it when the case is assembled anyway :)

Also, some hero here allowed me to move up to a 780 from my poor ol' 760, so I put that in for some test runs of games. It works brilliantly so far, except for some reason GTA IV will force itself to lowest resolution and settings.

I'll be painting that later :D

GTA IV had that issue for me too. You have to edit the .ini file manually as for some reason the game doesn't detect the amount of vram that you have.

Thanks guys!

Mine tells me that I'm using 202mb/3GB and therefore I can't set the settings any further... I could max it out on the 760 that had 2GB RAM (although then it'd run pretty crappy).

Would you mind linking me to a guide or telling me what to edit in the .ini file so that I can run new benchies with the 780? :D

More updates tomorrow guys!

Today it was time to start modding the ACX cooler. After a lot of Googling of how to remove the shroud I came across a video by Razetheworld who did nearly the exact same thing I planned. Either way, I now knew how to take the shroud off without removing the entire cooler from the card :)

There were two very difficult to reach screws like this one, but I got them after 10 minutes of fiddling.

Shroud on

Decided to paint the I/O plate again too. The reflective silver-ish paint does my head in.

Had a nice motherboard standoff screwing tool from my old CM Storm Trooper that came in handy once again:

Removed the standoffs around the DVI ports

And there we go. Shroud and I/O plate :)

Then it was time to start fiddling with some tweezers and a flat-head screwdriver

Removed the silver plates to re-use them later

Also the Super Clocked logo came off

Decided to grab a knife and even remove these tiny little accent pieces

Like that stripe at the end though, but I dislike glossy stuff in computers cause of dust. Also the writing on it was kind of 'hmeh', so I fixed that.

I also really like white GPUs, but Black and Grey is where it's at  This is going to look awesome Rick will suit Lotus so much.

Thanks fellas!

Today it was time to put the card back together :)

Matte black I/O brackets look so good

White shroud all finished and dried nicely. I had plans to make the fake vents black again, but I decided that there would already be plenty black on the card, and keeping them like this helped the silver plates pop out a little more.

The plates still had some adhesive on them, but I figured I better help them stay on with a tiny bit of glue :)
