[BL] Chrazey's System Adventures

can never have too many cups :D
I did order one myself, but never got it :(

good luck with the rest of the build, will sub so i get to see the results

I think the thermal armour might be in the way. Worth a shot though. The RAM dimm being pushed slightly shouldn't be a problem at all.

Are you sure you want to stick to just that C then? :p

Umm, how do you mean?... it's not really in the way as far as I experienced it. It was only the fittings which were pinching the RAM stick a bit.
And the tubes were a bit short in order to have them coming out the bottom rather than at the side... but will it a go again once I get it RMA'd later this week.

Haha yeah man, just like yours... simple is usually the best :)
Unless you've come up with something else to add to it? ^^

Haha, true that! :p.... although I barely use mugs, but thought it was cool so :D
That sucks dude, have you contacted OCUK about it?...

Thanks mate, I highly appreciate your support and I hope I'll make the sub worth it in the end! :)

But yes, that was my idea and will try it later on... but not sure if it will work though, didn't seem like the mounting would line up unfortunately, ie not a square shape.

Actually it should be square. If it's not I would be worried ;)

Hey again guys,

So another update for you guys... as I haven't really been doing anything to my PC lately, but today I did. And I haven't done any like detailed pictures like some of you guys do, as I do forget to take pictures lol...

But here are some pictures which I did actually manage to take hehe :p

So here was the PC before the change in terms of HDD cage and CPU cooler:

IMG_0643_zpsyw2ppy81.jpg

My entire, former setup, which I've made some changes to, more pictures coming later...

IMG_18801_zpsrj2dtl6s.png

(In case you're wondering why the far right monitor is off, it's because the DP port on my graphics card doesn't work anymore :()

Here's me trying out the Fractal Design Kelvin S36 for the first time:

IMG_0942_zpsghlh9b5i.jpg

And here's my first ever mod, yay! :D ... I couldn't find any good dual HDD cages online, so I took the one I got from my BitFenix Aegis (which I never ended up using) and modded my Fractal case for it...

IMG_1771_zpsjyhytds4.jpg

And here's the result:

IMG_1769_zpshzrgp63n.jpg

I Wasn't quite happy with the fittings touching the RAM stick like this, which I asked you guys earlier about...

IMG_0974_zpszenrcjk8.jpg

Ended up with 3 faulty units and purchased from another retailer the other day and tried a different position of the pump itself, looks a bit funny due to the logo though. And also test fitted a rear fan in there as well...

IMG_2159_zpsuthi4bmo.jpg

IMG_2164_zpsww1vwc8m.jpg

But it works better in terms of not touching the RAM stick, but then I can not have a rear fan installed, as that will interfere with the tubes :(... And if I have the tubes coming down from the front, but have the pumps fittings positioned downwards, like the image below, the tubes are very strangled and doesn't look all that good...

(Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the tubes coming down from the front and having the pump fittings positioned downwards, as I never really installed it that way.
Because when I test fitted it, by holding it in my hands and lining it up, it was a lot of tension in the tubes and I had to put some force in order to get it lined up correctly and I just didn't feel comfortable with it.
)

IMG_2157_zpsfxerisld.jpg

IMG_2166_zpsr1lzajmz.jpg

Anyone that has any ideas or so regarding this?... is it bad not to have a rear fan installed as an intake?... as all I have then is the 2 x 120's in the front as intakes. The rest is 3 x 120's on the cooler exhausting.

Right now I have the rear fan mounted on the outside of the case as an intake... not the most ideal thing, but it works, just not sure about it. As it does look a bit funny.

I also worked on the cable management today, as you might notice in the pictures, will show you all the back side and all of it once the new 980Ti comes into the PC later on :)

Hope you enjoyed this update to my build log and thanks for all the feedback! :)

Regards,
Chrazey

I think I'd mount it the correct side up with the tubing in the front. If it only leans against the RAM dimm then no damage will really be done, it doesn't look like it's actively pushing the RAMstick further out of the way than the slot allows.

That's some neat cable management by the way :)

Alright heya lads, another late update to my build log... I know I haven't been frequent at all with updates to this log and many updates have been made, but I've tried documenting as much as I could (as I always like to just do everything and get done with it).

So to start off... as some of you know, but that I didn't put in this log is that I've gone from an old Sapphire 6950 up to a beast, in the shape of an EVGA GTX 980Ti. Behold the glory:

FullSizeRender%202_zpsohcopopz.jpg

And out of the kind courtesy of Asperatis, I got myself a Titan X shroud to put on it, for a much nicer look :)

Stripping the baby apart:

IMG_2409_zpskypfz5ec.jpg

IMG_2410_zps0tzc5mxf.jpg

Tried an attempt at modding the GEFORCE logo, well let's just say that....... it didn't go so well. And let's just leave it at that

IMG_2411_zpsfhrl4wsu.jpg

And here's the baby with the black Titan X shroud on it:

IMG_2476_zpsyigpoiu1.jpg

IMG_2477_zpsrl1e7niz.jpg

And then I thought why not mod the grey thingy on the GeForce cards, to a blue colour, to get a nice black and blue GPU. To match my system... so I did:

IMG_2479_zpsjiddw3qb.jpg

FullSizeRender%2012_zpsrqeyocjf.jpg

And let me introduce to you... EVGA GTX 980Ti Black Edition!

IMG_2481_zpsc5xvw61n.jpg

Small mention, I did order an Gigabyte 980Ti G1 Gaming, after hearing how silent it was in Jayz2Cents video... although, I did not blend in with the system at all, so I returned it:

Later on I decided to go with the lovely Corsair 350D :) (Didn't take any pictures of the actual case itself though, as I forgot to lmao)

IMG_3115_zpsnk0vtqg0.jpg

I did not really like the odd 5.25" bay in the top sticking out and showing the large side panel window... and since I saw JR's build log and how slick it became after him modding his case, I thought I'd do the same:

FullSizeRender%205_zpsxondmynl.jpg

IMG_3449_zps4fqh1p9k.jpg

IMG_3450_zps4orpl5to.jpg

And then, the cutting started :)

IMG_3454_zpslwqp9d6i.jpg

IMG_3456_zpsxadsynj9.jpg

IMG_3457_zpsd2i8hdg4.jpg

Then all done...

IMG_3459_zpsg6exbe3m.jpg

IMG_3460_zps9mmbxbe0.jpg

Although... I did not like the small portion sticking out, so got rid of that as well :)

IMG_3462_zps62qfdau6.jpg

And finally.... Boom! All done:

IMG_3465_zpsvfoilbzl.jpg

IMG_3467_zpsguwc8kdz.jpg

IMG_3468_zpsbnusiajk.jpg

IMG_3474_zpsuctggsc1.jpg

IMG_3471_zpsu5gcmfmy.jpg

But then, I obviously did not use the stock fans that came with the case:

IMG_3117_zpsxwphguj7.jpg

IMG_3118_zpsmpualba5.jpg

Instead, I got myself a couple of Fractal Design HP 140 PWM's, due to the Corsair 350 can hold them, which the Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 couldn't.
Oh yes baby... the quality is on par with a Noctua NF-F12 fan if you ask me, although the rubber corners are just magnificent. The quality on them are just superb!:

FullSizeRender%2016_zpseuaaii9a.jpg

FullSizeRender%2017_zpsw57vgi03.jpg

FullSizeRender%209_zpsk51pp4zi.jpg

Although, I had to use a nut in order to actually get it secured at the top, due to the top holes for the fan are larger than the actual fan screws:

FullSizeRender%206_zpsbwl2v5m5.jpg

FullSizeRender%207_zpsvae3svgt.jpg

FullSizeRender%208_zpsrwecbdxt.jpg

Then the building in the 350D started...

IMG_3857_zpse1hlijvr.jpg

IMG_3861_zpspn0n2qeb.jpg

IMG_3858_zps1kuqx1sb.jpg

IMG_3859_zpsqia5bbwt.jpg

Lastly... I give you a very poor night shot of the PC with the side panel on and it's fully functional :D :

IMG_3948_zps9szpxvui.jpg

I wasn't sure if this was correct, so I asked JR about it and he said it should lit up like this... as I thought that both sides of the power button should lit up. But it turns out that the right one is for HDD activity lol.

IMG_3947_zpsrygxyvkr.jpg

I do have to say that after rebuilding it, I did notice that the front panel is quite loose. If I lift the entire case frame itself up, the front panel looses off for some reason. It has some tabs on the inside and like hooks for the case frame itself to kind of rest on. So if you lift it up, the frame gets loose from the hooks and therefore the front panel loosens off. I am not sure if I've missed any screws or so, as I can't really find any holes for a screw to be screwed into that will secure the front panel itself :(... other than this, the case is superb and really nice :)

So here it is folks... a very looong and overdue update on my build log. It's many pictures and so on in this update, but I did not want to post them over time, since I work quite a lot and therefore didn't find the time for it. So I went all Chrazey with it, and dropped a bomb on ya all ;)

Kudos to anyone and everyone that actually managed to go through this entire post without fast scrolling hehe :p

Anyway, cheers for turning in and taking a look at my build log. Highly appreciate it and as always, any comments, feedback, advice etc are highly appreciated and welcome! :)

Thanks,
Chrazey

Looks great bud but I'd definitely give modding the LED strip another go as it would go really well with the build instead of green, You need REALLY fine sand paper, Just take your time, I did and it turned out great.

All in all though it looks really good :)

Yah bud, I would like to do it again to be honest... but I really hate the screws on the GPUs, I've managed to thread one of the 4 screws around the fan, needed in order to remove the shroud and get the LED out.

And I don't exactly want to drill in the screw with the GPU there, as high risk of damaging a £550 graphics card.
And I don't really feel comfortable removing the cooler, then reapply thermal paste and install it again... as I've noticed on JayzTwoCents that applying thermal paste on a GPU, ain't the same as doing it on a CPU, which I'm quite common and comfortable with.

Oh my you did a fine job there ^_^ nice touch to paint the silver bracket blue! As Dice said, you could one day have another try with the LED logo, imagine having that one blue as well.

Also another thing that could be nice is to paint some blue accents on that mobo armour. I've seen it somewhere before, no idea where though I can't remember. There was someone who gave his mobo armor red accents by painting those accent lines on it red. Maybe you could try that in blue one day too? :) That is, if the mobo armour has these lines on it

I still think the Games workshop glaze paints will put a nice blue tint on that LED strip if you can smooth the rough surface.
