Bill of £126,000.00

For Virgin Media ontop of their budget to install a faster internet connection than 0.001MB. I'm sick of the money hungry companies, they are one of the richest companies in the world, maybe if they focus more on expanding their network rather than making new tivo boxes every week, I'll be happy

.

"The existing cable network was laid some years ago and it would now be prohibitively expensive ie more than £126,000.00 more than we would budget for the area, for us to excavate all the roads and pavements between our nearest network access point and your property to create the necessary network extension that would be required to provide you with service"

I've been at them for 3 months now with backing of a member of parliament and building company to expand the network along 1 road, which has now turned into the answer ' NO '.

The area I live in only has ADSL with a poor poor speed, the exchange is in the middle of the town, we're at the end of the town, verging into the other city. Down 1 road they get 100mbps, around 1mi along the road (according to their measurements), we get 0.001, with an estimated of 2MB, which is wrong!

How can they justify a budget of that, and even offer for me to pay the outstanding balance if I want the whole area to get better broadband.

Heck, we can't even watch most TV around here as it relies on a net connection :s.

After ass kissing, and a long chat 20 minutes ago, we should now have 40mbps before the new year! GET IN

, so happy right now, it's unbelievable. The 4 days of downloading a 400mb file are long gone soon:). I've been having to use my parents connection who're nearly 60 as they have 100mb lol.

GO BT YOU RULE!

Wow....Is that for the whole area you're residing in or just a sum for the costs it would take to expand the services? Sorry, not quite getting it.

About how much will you be paying for internet service monthly, if you don't mind me asking? 40Mbps looks great. It's enough for all your downloading needs. BT all the way.

Welcome back by the way.

3 roads down they get 100mb as they're in a fibre optic enabled area. I asked for this new area to be done (1 street), and they said it is that amount over their budget. As you may or may not know, fibre optics are capable of handling GBps, rather than MBps, which is good for the future. Virgin Media offer 100mb package, but I will never be getting this as there are no cable (fibre optics) in this area. But still, BT managed to do another 8 streets with their phone services and broadband no problem on a lower budget than Virgin Media, but Virgin aren't apparently.

I was paying £37pm for a 0.001mb connection, but cut that down to £7.99 now as I complained and cut down my bandwidth limit. I was still being limited on £37pm :S... not like I'm going to hit my limit with these speeds anyway. 40MB from BT will be £16pm

Are you still using that horrible 0.001mbs connection?

In denmark you can get like USB dongles that run via 3g hasn't that been an option?

The area was once a field (about a year back) and the coverage is very poor. I lose my GPS when entering the area. 3G is a no no lol, plus prices = high

It's because Branson is leeching all the money to fuel his private island...

I should be going to BT infinity soon, yet they keep pushing the date back for my area

I live in the middle of nowhere behind a stone quarry. ADSL is the best I can get out here, but I'm sure as Hell not moving into the city. The convenience of hiding bodies is so worth it.

I had 0.75 Mb/s for a long time till now.I'm with BT and finally they replace some cables in exchange on my land line now I'm getting 4.5 Mb/s - not so bad, but not enough as we are leaving in 21st Century

Within 2 years they will put fibre-optic, but not in my village unfortunately, so maybe I will get 20 Mb/s as still I will be connected via coper cable to my house - shame.

Wow, 37GBP/month for 0.01Mbps service. Are they trying to rob you?

I have the same problem in relation with yours as well. My area does off fibre optic cabling, but the companies that provide internet services don't want to and aren't willing to spend their earnings on expanding and setting new cabling everywhere. If more people were to have these kinds of services, you'd think the price would go down a bit at least?

you'd think that the cost of setting them up to new customers would be offset by the revenue generated from those new customers aslong as the extra cabeling was cost effective (i.e. no point laying 100 miles of cables for 2 people, but laying 20 miles of cables for 50+ people would be good)

Exactly, they earn billions, weekly!

The area should have around 200 families (by mid 2012)... the main reason for the 'no' was:

Unfortunately our surveys have highlighted a number of infrastructure build issues that prevent us from doing this at this time.

I really do fail to see what would be the problem, this is the road:

Down 1 hill and along a straight road....

around that little bend, reaches my road...

IMPOSSIBLE AND BUILDINGS IN THE WAY? me think not!
