Best sound card for 2.0 stereo setup

The Xonar D2X is a fantastic card. My friend has one and it's just unbelievable, even when he's just using a Logitech X-540 5.1 speaker system. Gaming and movies are great. Music is even better, but I still believe music should be played through a 2.0 or 2.1 system instead. 5.1 is a bit overdoing it, and it's not necessary....the sounds seem too analytical and too well made sometimes. I'm not sure if you know what I mean?

Right now, I believe Auzentech has the 'best bang for the buck' sound cards. I haven't had any experience with them but I've heard great things about them too. At least they have better drivers.

I'm really tempted to go out and buy the Xonar right now...I hope my speakers don't fall into the category of cheap speakers.

pretty much any speaker system that is over $100 will sound great. especially if they were built for music or made from a company with a nice rep.

That's true. I've never used a 5.1 speaker system with my PC before, so I wouldn't know if it needs a lot of getting used to. I think I'll stick to a 2.1 system for now for a wider range of multimedia. I want to exchange my father's Klipsche Pro Media 2.1 with mine now...and you're absolutely right. Can't emphasize enough that they are really really really good.

Thank you for the recommendation. Any other 2.0 or 2.1 speaker systems I can look into for high quality music/movies or gaming?

Also when listening to music with the pro media, you'll get a clearer sound if you remove the speaker grills. the grill on the pro media 2.1 are my only complaint, they muffle quite a bit of the highs.

Oh, thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to try that out and see for myself.
