Best P35 mobo for quad core overclocking

Well it will only been used to cool the NB at stock, unless you think this would offer a better solution than the "fusion block" later with watercooling?

or isnt it worth adding to the water link?

Not sure about the barbs on the nb, I think you need some ugly adaptors (I use 1/2" barbs and 7/16" tubing) but watercooling is just an option.

Air cooling with an after market cooler will be fine, but you would then need to replace the coolers on the mosfets and sb as the heatpipes are one big cooling piece...

I hope I make sense, been drinking

Yeah you do. it comes with some ugly bits of white plastic with small bits of tubing in the middle. Not very nice if you're building a sexy rig.

Yeah its probably best course to do that but not essential. For example, I've been running my commando without sinks on 1/2 the mosfets since I got it.

This is the kind of thing you'd want to for your southbridge tho. Not essential immediately, but a good idea if you're pumping extra volts thru the sb.

If money isn't an object I'd go for the Blitz. Why? Well mainly because you could totally rule it out as being a limiting factor in overclocking, but also being a Commando owner I've got used to the extra features on the ROG boards.

Like what? The post screen? Never used it. I like the cmos clear button though - but not worth £30!

So thats where you got that sb cooler - that is the thing stopping me put my 8800 in the x16 pcie slot...

For q6600, from testing done by mr OCZ and co, the p5k did well, but needed substantially more volts clock for clock than the msi p35 mobo... I think I'll give it a whirl...

The post screen has actually helped me a few times when I had some dodgy ram installed. Also stuff like the CMOS Clear, power buttons on board, massive voltage range (on the Blitz), Right angled SATA (SATA on P5K blocks 8800U).

Yep, had the same problem. On the GTS if you remove the plastic heatsink casing it _just_fits. I went with an EK block to to get around it.

I'll give you the right angled sata's, cmos/power/reset buttons, the voltage range is good but rarely used... I'm not knocking ROG mobo's - I have come to love mine.

Thanks for the tip on the 8800 - I have a swifty block ready for it... I actually don't know why I didn't fit it when I re built my rig. I forgot. What a dope. I'm switching out the mobo so I'll do it then.

Well, 24 G0's were tested on a couple of mobo's, the p5k was swapped out for the msi platinum.

The platinum gave higher clocks at lower volts so I am leaning towards that, plus it is as cheap as chips @ £100ish, compared to £130/160 for p5k/blitz.

DFI 680i lt has had some decent results...

Why not the IP35 pro or wait too see the DFI results?

MSI make good boards but tbh they're not overclockers at heart.

IP35 pro was mentioned in my OP - it is a contender.

Are you talking about the dfi green p35? Results on that are around - turbo fsb - 600mhz...

I know nothing about MSI mobos but when someone has tested quite a few g0's in the p5k to see it out gunned by another... Of course, I am trusting one guy who is giving me this info (regarding msi - rest is sourced online from user testing)

mr. smith maybe the site wasn't being 100% legit when they said 3.5ghz @ 1.45v or whatever

It is a possibility. I have been offered an exchange for another pre-tested G0 or a full refund.

I have a p965 chipset which is OK for quads...

There would be no benefit for an etailer to lie, I'd never use them again and give a bad write up on them too.

I've already had an apology and an offer for full refund so... They seem legit to me...
