Best P35 mobo for quad core overclocking

I'm having a word with the place I got this G0, but I can't get it stable at 3.6ghz on any voltage. On a p35 mobo this is supposed to be 3.6@1.45v.

More specifically the MSI Platinum.

If I'm getting a new mobo, I want the best P35 for quad core.

The Asus P5K is supposed to be a good one.

Abit IP35 Pro (not keen on the blue though).

Anyone got any insights?

i just got the p5k deluxe but my first thoughts are either it or the e6850 are not going to be great overclockers. I'll give it a go now and see what I can get.

Well i saw somone get a G0 to 4 Ghz... on a p5k dux

So i thought maybe the p5k Premium would be better? but only supplier i'v found is Tekheads.

Best i can get on the e6850 is 3.6ghz, a bit disappointing really thought this board/chip would do better. Asus claim the premium is a better overclocker than the deluxe.

There is a guy on another forum who had dux and a G0 Q6600, (the one to get 4Ghz) and he got a premium... gotta find the forum again tho -=/

he was gonna run a few tests.

On a side note when the hell do i lose "newbie to OC3D"?

lol

*edit* found this if u want to look a review of the premium board with a Q6600 Here

the only thing is the chip you get can be pot luck. My old intel 920 went to 4.2ghz before I bottled it and this new one seems to be eiter real volt hungry or a stinker. I don't think I would chance my arm on a processor that I would only be pleased with if i could overclock it. Either way the q6600 should be fast.

Aye but the formula is 160??? ouch, might look into a few more

True dat. Just thinking how you're gonna feel when you give up that Commando ;)

Sorry to hijack, but XMS, would you pick the Asus Blitz Formula of P5k Premium?

If money isn't an object I'd go for the Blitz. Why? Well mainly because you could totally rule it out as being a limiting factor in overclocking, but also being a Commando owner I've got used to the extra features on the ROG boards.

Well tbh main reason im asing is cos if i get the blitz i can order my parts from 2 retails instead of 3 lol ><.

But to be clear on somthing, i can run it without Watercooling right?... will be a month before i can afford a setup :(

I've got a feeling that there's two versions of the Formula. The "Formula Special Edition" has the waterblock and the plain "Formula" doesn't.

just looking at a review and it had this

"The Cooling system wonderfully manages the task in the passive regime, additional cooling with the aid of water can be required with some serious overclock."

Think that means it works without watercooling? (btw i cant find a NON Special Edition =/)

I don't know what that website was smokin when they wrote that, but that's not what I experienced.

I believe Asus say that the board must be watercooled. However with no cooling I found that the NB ran at about 60oc with no overclock. Adding a bit of extra voltage to the NB saw the temps hit 80oc and the board switch off.

is 60*C too much to run for a month without Ocing?

It seemed to work OK for me when i was messing around with the board. I didn't have it running for more than a couple of hours like that tho.

Maybe think about buying a cheap NB cooler? £5-10 shud get you something to see you good

I can vouch for 'these' aka CM blue ice... I have one, seems to do the job although it is a *swearfilter* to get on.

Well since this thread is all over the place, whats a commando with ~50 quids worth of after market cooling worth? 80 squid?

Also, is the conclusion the blitz is the wat to go, or is that simply Jims opinion?
