Best air cooler regardless of noise?

So I have a Dark Rock Advanced c1. It's silent but I'm not too impressed with the temperatures. I'm just wondering what's the most effective air cooler around up to about 40 quid regardless of how much noise it produces? I'm just after lower temps, silence doesn't bother me too much since I'm using good noise cancelling headphones whenever the CPU is under any demand. Thanks!

save up a few extra bucks and get the Noctua NH-D14, best air cooler that all others are compared to. i7 OC'd to 4400 at 1.22V. Playing Tomb Raider on Ultra and highest temps I have seen is 38C

Best I'd say Noctua NH-D14 but (that colour), the all rounder has to be the Cooler Master 212 Evo.

I've always fancied trying the Xigmatek Thor's Hammer although it is a touch on the large size, but I like quirky fun coolers :lol:

On a serious note the best Air cooler is probably the NH-D14 thats easily available. Performs near a H80i which looks better. I would get whichever is cheaper tbh.

Could also have a look at the Phanteks TC14PE if you care about the looks, but for something more within your budget I would suggest a Scythe Mugen 3 or Mugen 4, and a twin pack (or at least one) of Corsair SP fans.

I saw one of those in the warehouse while working at Amazon, and I have to say it's a big weighty son'bitch. Looks nice though.

+1 to the Phanteks TC14PE. Performance of the Noctua without putting up with the bad colour scheme.

the 212 Evo and the NH-D14 are in two completely different leagues, both in price and performance. the 212 Evo will not be a whole lot better (if better at all) than his current cooler.

i second the BS claim. 2.2V is 6+ GHz stuff.
i also doubt the NH-D14 can keep the 4770k under 40 degrees at 4.4GHz on full load.

The best cooler imo is the Phanteks PH-TC14. A couple of degrees warmer than the Noctua but it doesn't look like bum. Also it comes in various colors that would fit almost any build.

-edit- Scythe are also excellent, especially if you're after quiet.

I would assume thats 1.2v boys - its just a typo keep it polite

I editted my first typo, sorry about that.
I never claimed under 40C under full load, I said while playing a game on Ultra under 40C. Under full load temps will run 68-72C avg. real world usage IMO is always nice to put out there so people can know what to expect during normal use, heavy game play etc. Its like posting idle temps without posting ambient temps, fan speed, how many fans, fan orientation, type of case, all which can have an effect on temps to a degree.
