Best Air CPU Cooler for Intel I7-4960X

Hello everyone,

I would like to buy a new cpu air cooler for my I7-4960X.

I'm thinking between 2 products:

Thermalright True Spirit 140 Power
Be quiet dark rock pro 3

And is it necessary to place 2 fans on the top of my case , because i've 2 Noctua's NF-F12 from my H100I.

I'm choosing for a cpu air cooler, because the H100I is making too much noise/whine.
I just wonna sit relaxed behind my computer , with a silent and cool system.

Also i'm not sure of the Thermalright fits in my case. Because corsair says that my case can have a max of 170 mm high cpu fan: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/obsidian-series-750d-full-...

And thermalright is 171.2 mm refer link: http://www.thermalright.com/html/products/cpu_cooler/tr...

My system:

Asus Rampage IV Formula ( Socket 2011)
Corsair 750D
Asus Strix 980 OC
Corsair 32GB@1866mhz DDR3 Low Profile
Corsair HX1000I

Greetings

I think you just need to set your H100i up better matey - that will perform better at lower noise levels than ANY air cooler making the same noise.

Considering you can get a h100i or another 240AIO for the price of a top end air cooler, you are better off with the AIO. Performs better at lower noise levels.

Srr but I'm so angry with my H100I.

People are telling me that the solution is for going to an air cooling if just wonna hear a air noise, and no beep or electronic sound..

Do you understand what i mean?
And do you understand my intel question about the temp limit?

Ummm... the ONLY sound I hear from my PC, is the water flowing through it the momeny I start up my PC, which is barely any noise at all, if any.
Then all the "noise" I hear, is just the air moving around... nothing else. It's the air that is making the "noise" in my PC.

okay.

What is the best silent/cooling liquid cooler?

Maybe i must go for the swiftech?

I just don't understand why you won't stick with your H100i?... even Tom said it, you probably just have it set up off?...

I have mine in push and it works fine.

what do you mean with set up off ???

That i must ask for a replacement or buy a new one?

My apologies for lack of grammar there... what I meant is that you have probably just set up your H100i a bit funky, meaning that if you set it up differently, ie maybe push, pull or push/pull might be better for you?...

Does it make more sense now?...

no i tried that already its not good.

When you wonna have no risk on pump sound ratling or high flute noise.

Then you just need to go for a high air cooler.

Well if it's making noises from the pump or so, then it's faulty - get it RMA'd and get a new unit.

And a no go for the "then you just need to go for a high air cooler"... there's a reason why enthusiasts go for custom water cooling... as water cooling is better at cooling than air coolers.
Why else would they spend almost as much on the custom loops themselves as they've paid for their entire PC?...

yes,

But with an AIO watercooling you've got always the risk.

For having an rattle or anoying noise or whatever..

If you got like me a very good ears :)

And also being a "strafe to perfect person"

Then i'm thinking its not good for buying again a new H100I

You've always got the risk of what?, leakage?...

And I've got massive ears dude... I've gotten so in for sounds, that even the smallest "coil whine" I'll get anal about it, so yeah.

Not sure what you mean by "strafe to perfect person"...

If your H100i is defect, then you should RMA for a new unit, not buy a new one.

Well he isn't that wrong... There aren't just a few cases that the tubing just blew up.
from what he is saying though the pump is close to a total failure if he hears rattling.
Air coolers have come a long way too, beeing on par with some aios

Thats undervolted - an air cooler cant cope with a hot chip like that with 'auto' cpu volts or an overclock.

I Personally ran a H100i on a 4960X and tbh mate you wont get an air cooler to perform that well AND be quiet.

The only problem here sadly is that you need to set it up correctly. Get all the link stuff wired in and set the fans to quiet/silent setting in the corsair software.
