Best _single slot_ card for F@H

all those that are advising AMD gpus for folding are nuts

and the 550ti has not got CUDA

PPD per $$$$ = 8800GT or similar

Some people have tried 550Ti here and got about 9k PPD. It's not actually a bad folding card.

For reference my GTX 460 gets about 8,500 PPD stock and 11,000 PPD overclocked to 800mhz core.

A 550ti might not be on par with a 460 for gaming but it's not far off the pace for folding.

Aye dugdiamond is about 2 years out of date sadly.....

460 has been the cheap folding GPU for ages......

550 is a bit too low end to bother spending money on it.

If I could find a single slot 460 I'd get one. I agree though, for the price difference, a 460 has way more headroom than a 550.

I saw that single lane 450 before but it's downclocked a fair bit - though might be my best bet.

^^^ this is why i read your OP carefully

i understood that you want a gpu <23mm thick... is this correct?

maybe passive is the way to go.

and...

The GTX550Ti does have "cuda" .

yes - i am wrong (it has cuda, but no physx)... i apologise

i've been on strong painkillers all night and day for 2nd degree burns

I'm on pretty stron painkillers for my knee. I know how that can mess your head up.

Also, the 550 Ti does do physx, atleast according to nVidias site.

And (to the OP) on the subject of the 550 Ti. Having had a look at some banchmarks, the 550 Ti is closer to the 460 series than I previously thought. Obviously the 460s have more overclocking head room... but if you can find a single slot 550 Ti it's worth considering. That is if Kelper doesn't end up good for folding.

I'll wait to see what Kepler has to offer and save up in the meantime.
