Best 310£ camera?

So I need help with a gift for my sister, she's been interrested in to photography for a while now but lately she has gone nuts about it, I don't want to ask her what she wants because I don't want her to guess the gift.

Also I don't know jack about cameras but maybe some of you guys do. I have been looking at the Nikon 1 V1 and from what I've read it's supposed to be quite good for what it actually is. Maybe you can comne up with different suggestions for better cameras.

Now she uses the camera for all kinds of things portraits, scenary etc., so it has to be a good all-rounder.

the Nikon1 is only a bridge camera

the Nikon D3100 has dropped alot in price, and you can now get cash back on it too (<£350).

if photography is something you think she will really get into, a 'bridge' is not the way to go. i would suggest a semi-pro, similar to the one is mentioned.

i do not know if you are a member of aria's or overclockers' forums, but they have photography sections... where alot of people (like myself) chat about cameras... the pros and cons of new and old models etc...

it may be worth you taking a look there (IMHO aria's is the best one ;) )

I'll check out aria and overclockers' camera forum, in the mean time feel free to come up with more suggestions.

Remember I live in Denmark, and prices are about the same as in the UK, so shipping costs will add up.

it is not the seller, but nikon that are giving cashback... so resellers in denmark should be offering price-drops too.

btw: canon, are also doing a similar cashback deal... but their equivalent to the d5100 is more expensive ;)

Another option is the Canon 1100D.
I'm bias towards Canon due to good past experiences, and my ex-girlfriend once bought the predecessor to the 1100D. It was cheap, small, but still took damn good photos. She's still using it to this day, I believe. I can only imagine the new one is even better :)

I also need a lens if you're gonna suggest a non-kit purchase :p
ah! okay then... how much do you love your sister? lol

a 35mm 1.8F lens for the d3100 is ~£140
it is a great all rounder, and makes better images than the 'kit' telephoto lens, that comes with the D3100

yep... great entry-semi-pro dslr cameras are the 1100D and the D3100.

both very cheap and are on par with each other.

Well the max price is about 350£, I'd rather not go above that. :)

Looks like I'll probably get the d3100 maybe the d5100.

But I am going to continue research and if you guys have any other suggestions please tell me. :)

The best? Canon eos 60d is awesome but really really expensive.

That's a little like recommending a Rolls Royce to someone looking for a Volkswagen Polo

I can vouch for the 60D, as I have one myself, but it is way over the £310 budget.

How comes you're looking to have the cameras shipped over from the UK? Are cameras especially expensive in the UK?

the Nikon D5100 beats the Nikon D3100 in every way. It has a significantly better processor, better low light performance, better LCD screen and has all kinds of other nice features not found on the D3100. While the price difference is significant, you get a lot more with the D5100 than with the D3100. In my opinion, the image sensor on the D5100 is alone worth the difference. The swivel screen on the Nikon D5100 is sweet – a world better than the one on the D5000. Not only do we get the same high resolution screen, but it is also now opening to the side rather than the bottom of the screen (which was a big annoyance on the D5000) – videographers will surely love this.

If you can stretch it, you should do it. Although, be sure to explain to your sister just how awesome you are, and how much she should love you, and how good her camera is.
