The e2160 is ~33% more expensive than the e1200, and both seem to o/c well to around 3GHz on stock cooling (will be trying for 3.2GHz though). Am I really going to see the benefit of 1MB L2 cache over 512KB?

I would still go for the Pentium over Celeron, and as for L2 cache not being needed for gaming, form what I hear it is the complete opposite, if you can, get the E2160 every time

Well to be fair it depends on the type of game but games that will be constantly refreshing images and running varying scripts constantly will not utilize cache that much. For something like photoshop or decoding, where the same algorithms are run over and over, the cache will be of benefit.
