Autobahn appreciation

As discussed earlier in the 'Post a picture of your last purchase' thread i will now start the Autobahn appreciation thread. Basically this is all about muh freedomz.
Isn't it weird that germany is the only first world country which has a highway without speed limits? Our death by car crash rate is still pretty much the same as in every other country.
Even the USA where you can legally own 50cal rifles doesn't allow you to drive any faster than 120mph, i'd much rather have the right to travel fast than to shoot guns at empty bottles.
You may also get mad about your local speed limits.

Well in very busy areas we usually have 120km/h speed limits, sometimes 100km/h. 'Fast' has no limit. Most people cruise at 160-180km/h.

Cruise at 100mph lol, I'm pretty sure that's an instant ban over here if caught - though I could be wrong.

My brother used to spend many a happy hour cruising the autobahn at night when he was stationed at Honne. It's the one thing he really misses.

If you go any faster than 180 usually it just isn't worth it. The fuel consumption sky rockets and you save next to no time.
Well, that is if you can't go 300km/h at night.

I soooo want to have a car right now...
6 more months until im 17

And then you'd be lucky to afford a 1.6

Mine sits happily at 90-100mph in 6th, after it is a German car ;)

Actually one of the main reasons why cru got the z4 was the rather cheap insurance. Pretty weird, you'd expect the insurance companies to not trust an 18 year old with a 265bhp BMW.

Yeah I don't think that translates over the same for UK car insurance.
Usually you're better off getting a decent priced (3k-5k) 1.4L.

I've noticed a lot of differences traveling between Germany and England over the years and England is waaaayyyyyyyyyyyy behind in nearly everything.

England isn't a country where you can feel in control, It's over policed and over monitored and filled with too many hand shakers for my liking.

But in Germany it has more of a free feeling, Might sound weird but it's just an observation over the years.

I haven't lived in the UK yet, so i can't really make a solid observation, but from what i've heard opposing the stereotype bureaucracy is far less predominant in germany than in other countries. The only thing that really has to change in germany in terms of law is the stupid censoring of video games and movies which really is just a relic of the past WWII phase which lasted far too long in germany. Peace, love and don't you dare to mention cruelty.

anyone here drifted their car?

Well I must admit when watching YouTube videos of people from other countries, I just think that you'd never be allowed to do so and so like that over here. Can't think of specific examples but it's a common occurrence.

You'd need to work in the UK especially England for at least a year to make a solid observation but you'd get the idea pretty quickly, Standard of living from what I've seen compared to other EU countries is definitely lower.

Yeah my brother uses VPN's to get the uncensored games through Steam, Doesn't always work though, Quite annoying to be honest.

Having lived in both countries and still traveling between them regularly I always think back to 1 person who put England into perspective for me.

My aunts neighbor in London was *RIP* an old army colonel from a prestigious family, Old money etc..., Very "I say what what" old oxford school boy, A real nice gent and 1 thing he said to me will always stick with me "My good man one must remember the only purpose of the lower to middle classes is to support us uppers and the establishment".

I dismissed it at first but looking at England after traveling a lot over the years, He was very right.

yeah. for some reason the 3.0 z4 coupe is cheaper than a VW golf or bmw 318i for example

I've only driven on the Autobahn once myself in a rental car.

It's a good few years ago now, but it was a BMW 5 series with a 2 litre diesel engine (if I remember correctly). I remember taking the car up to around 200km/h, and having it start to shake on me at the time.

The highest speed I've ever done here in Ireland in my own car is around 180km/hr just for a test more than anything. Kind of pointless driving at that speed though, fuel consumption goes way up, whereas cruising in the 6th gear at 120km/hr for me it's a miser with fuel consumption.

You wouldn't want to come to Australia to drive then our max is 110kph and most suburbs are 50kph so for a whopping big country it takes fooorrreeevveerr to get around it LOL!

depends a lot on where you drive tbh

when you go from Thuringia/Thuringen to Bavaria it's shitty concrete roadway to proper roadway exactly at the border. roadway in the eastern part of germany tends to be a lot worse than the roadway in other parts
