Ati 6990 vs GTX 590

Well, that's where having a good processor comes in. And I get what you're saying. Plus when it comes to more than 2 cards your fps doesn't go up by much after.

the main reason why the two dual-gpu cards do well is that they only use ONE PCIE lane, which equals less stuff for the mobo to do.

yeah having a decent cpu does help but the main fact that they suck is support and dont work very well at all and another thing to point out is that u wanna get vsync on to stop tearing so then if u get a/2 card that can make nearly all game at 60fps there isnt any need for more power tbh

On my limited budget, I see me getting a second card to add to my systems if the ones that I have fail to do the trick. So far, they haven't. So it will be dual HD-6870's, dual GTX-560Ti's, or a pair of GTX-570's if I ever jump on the dual card bandwagon. I've heard that you have to screw around with gaming profiles to make SLI or CF work properly too. Sounds like a PITA to me.

What of those who like their 120hz monitors?

I cant wait I know I will be buying them but which one I might have to wait and see who has the better price but I do like nvidia as they do physx which I can use in 3d max know that’s will be the card for me I do think you can only have only two cards in sli not sure if it will do three or even 4 way sli in 590 would be good for me but I think as its a dual gpu meaning 2 in one card it might only be able to 3 way sli but would love to see 4 way sli lol I know these cards will be hot gear I do hope nvidia will take their time with the cooler unlike ati who needs to work on cooler as tom said I cant believe ati would sell it like that as its cost an arm and leg who would buy that not me as it runs hot as hell you could cook on it like tom said oh well I will take a back seat and see which one has the best performance as for me the more gpu I have the faster my render time will be

Strikes me as strange, that even tho that ASUS card looks "tatty", it wouldn't fit in all pcie slots cos the edge connector hasn't been cut.

Both the Gigabyte and ASUS are sporting the reference cooler, that in all honesty is cooling the blank plastic thing behind the fan better than it will the 2 vapour chambers either side of it. Not the best cooling arrangement imo. There's not even directional channels for the air flow.

I would add tho, that looking at the ASUS and HIS next to each other - why on earth didn't nvidia use that (almost) 2 inches to put another bank of memory on the card to reach beyond 1.5g per gpu ? Even 2.5g would have been tastier.

Let's just hope Nvidia put all the VRAM chips on the one side, and not create a cooker plate like the HD6990 since the top-down fans frees up some space to do so.
