Asus vg248qe

Hey guys,

So I recently got an ASUS VG248QE 144Hz monitor and it all worked well... untill a few days ago, when I switched to DisplayPort and it was working at first but then all of a sudden it said "DisplayPort NO SIGNAL".
So then pulled out the cable and saw that the thing was a bit bent, so I thought okay it's broken... so got a new DP cable and same thing.

When I have DVI cables plugged into the monitor, but have a DVI to Displayport adapter on the other end which is plugged into the graphics card, it works.

So by this, I'm assuming that the DisplayPort on the monitor is off or gone?...

Any thoughts? :/

Thanks guys,
Chrazey

Are you running with a 900 series card? If so the they appear to have issues with DisplayPorts.
Mine works 30% of the time....

EDIT: Or it could be Windows 8, I upgraded at the same time.

I have a similar prob with my monitor and DP as well, sometimes it says no signal and I have to either reeboot or disconnect the DP cable from the GPU and push it back in again.

Thanks for the replies guys... I'm currently using my old 6950 card.

And the reason I use DP is cause of 144Hz at 1080p and my other 2 monitors are using all the DVI ports available at the back.

Might take one of those on my 144Hz ASUS monitor and have one of the other monitors on the DVI-DP adapater.

I tried the unplug-plug back in again SieB and still the same thing :/

Sometimes for me it takes a few tries. Not sure if your prob is the same as me and SPS as we both have 900 series Nvidia cards which have known driver related probs with DP.

I have never heard about issues with AMD cards and DP though, but maybe it has something to do with 144hz monitors. Most of the people I have seen having issues with DP are 9 times out of 10 with 144hz monitors.

Not sure though, just an observation. Can't think of anything else that might help you, but good luck getting it sorted :)

Does it have coil whine?, as both my ASUS Strix's had it... I so wished they didn't as I really liked them overall.

And lol, does the 900 series card have driver issues with DP?

My 970 doesn't have an coil whine. There have been a lot of reports of coil whine with 970s but I remember just as many people reporting coil whine with 7970s, 580s and 290s. It is just one of those things where you either get it or don't with highend cards.

The 900 series have had driver probs with DP, they might have been fixed but the only problem I have had is the one you are having from time to time.

Ohh... so even 290s then?... Well many people would say that they don't get it much, but then every electrical component can. Only that the 970's seems to be the most hitted one.

Such a shame, did really like the card overall and was really nice ingame :)

Is the one I'm having from time to time?... ohh so you're having my no signal issue from time to time?...

I get the no signal prob, not often, just every now and then. Restarting my PC or pulling the cable out and putting it back in from the GPU fixes it. Doesn't work if I do it from the monitor for some reason though, only from the GPU end.

Do you have the same monitor as me or some other brand?...

I have the Acer XB270HA Gsync monitor. It is 144hz and DP only, thats why I said earlier that maybe the no signal thing might have something to do with DP and 144hz.
I have noticed that a lot of people who have said they have had probs with DP and no signal from around the web also have 144hz monitors.

Just something I have noticed, there might be nothing to it and it might just be coincidence. It is just something that I have noticed.

Well it does sound something to it, doesn't it?... worth a check up on really ...

Nice find dude!

Well seems like DP is a no go at all for my ASUS one :(... even tried with DVI-DP adapter and it just wouldn't work. It was on, but completely blank :(

Did also test it with DVI and still nothing... and after I have putted the monitor on by bed, without any power plug to it or cable to it... the power button was still being lit... odd.

So I guess I should return it?...

Btw, should DP cables connectors be so fragile?... I mean, I need some force to unplugg it and that might bend the connector a bit :/

Thanks

DP connections usually have a tab on the back that you need to press down before you pull it out - have you been doing that?

Yeah I'm pretty sure they have a built-in battery. When I unplug my computer and everything connected at night to go sleep, it takes around 1 or 2 minutes for all of the lights to actually turn off.

Do you have another monitor that you can test with your GPU first? Or another GPU to put in your rig and test the monitor on? Just to rule either out. Even if by the sound of things the Displayport on the monitor seems broken (if the DVI one works).

Can your monitor turn certain input ports off as well? You can try messing around within the menu of the monitor itself for a bit, or boot into windows using DVI and have a look in the Nvidia Control Panel.

What has a battery? I think, that's just how long it takes for the power to dissipate.
