Asus Sabretooth x58 vs Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

Hi its my birthday in a couple weeks and ive seen a couple i7 920's floating about on ebay for around the £150 mark and ive already decided Mushkin Redline ram but was wondering what board is the better they both cover what i need and more but i was wondering which is the better of the two as ive only had this rig ive got now also somtime down the line i plan on watercooling as i intend to sli my gtx 480 so let me know which you think and why

Had this exact same problem. I ask a guy in the local computer store who said go for gigabyte cause it's gold based circuits not solder like the ASUS looked into this and found nothing to say it was anyway better for it. I did find that the gigabyte has lil tendency to catch fire but thats maybe just one offs they can't be perfect. but the asus also performed ever so slightly better. my main point for you would be for your sli on the gigabyte it'll run duel X8 PCI-e as it throttles back the lower channel(it only has 1 X16) whereas the sabertooth has 2 X16 so sli runs X16 they're both pretty well matched and each has it's following but I'd go for the sabertooth(Then again I bought that sabertooth so i might be bias)

Oh and hang around on ebay i seen a 930 go for £90 last week and a 950 go for £130, if you've got the patience can get a real bargain there

If you can find a x16 x16 X58 board with a gap between the PCI-e slots for the GPUs, I would go for that. On my previous Sabertooth I found cards getting pretty toasty. In a HAF-X case running Kombustor, my top EVGA 570 Superclocked got upto 88C in no time. Not cool!

Ok well i was opting for the sabretooth after watching toms reveiws just that i heard gigabyte were the most safe board to buy but i think x16 x16 might just make me go for it thanks for your reply

Thanks for your concern but when i sli i will be watercooling them along with the cpu i know what gtx 480s are know for but mine must be a golden one as it stays pretty cool 4 hours of crysis on very high at 1920x1080 and msi afterburner was telling me it was only 83c but your gtx 570's are meant to be cool cards them temps seem high are the oc'ed

For sli ect ect there really is nothing much between them but looks.

So imho get the one that you think will suit your rig best.

Well so far the Asus is looking like the most likley choice the only thing that could sway me towards the gigabyte is the 10 sata ports thats only really why im considering it :S

If you need 10 satas then I personally would be telling you to look at buy less drives but buying 2tb drives instead.

More drives = more heat and noise.

2TB drives are nice and quiet, use less power and create less heat

I dont intend to use all ten for hdds but its nice to know i can always add another without having to transfer 1tb of data to a 2 tb hard drive and the

2 500gb are intended for raid jaust cant be boverd to reinstall everything after i raid them im a little on the lazy side
