Computer shutting off when overclock is active

Hi,

I have had the same system for a little over 3 years now. I got the bundle from overclockers.co.uk It's been pre-overclocked to 4ghz the entire time and never had any issues with it. But just within the last few weeks my computer has started turning off completely without warning or error messages. I tried trouble shooting everything the best I could starting with a fresh install of Windows 7 but to no avail. I tried turning off my overclocked profile and it seems to be fine for now. I've went a bit nuts and bought a new power supply which should arrive in a few days because I thought it could be PSU failure at first until I switched off the overclock profile. Could it possibly be the RAM? Like I said, it's running fine now at stock speed. It's only when I re-enable it that it starts acting up again.

Any help would be VERY much appreciated!

Specs

Temps are normal when overclock is active, never been an issue.

Gigabyte X58-UD3R
Intel Core i7 930
Corsair H50
6GB Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz
MSI GTX 690
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB
Corsair HX750w Pro Series PSU

you may need to up the voltage a bit
overclocks can get unstable over time
usually appears with higher overclocks, but i guess within 3 years it's possible

The vcore is currently at 1.33750v

I'm no overclocker but I know my way about the BIOS. What do you recommend increasing it to?

a just a shotdown with no memory dump, blue screen or warning should leave an
event in your log.. start>control panel>administrative tools>event viewer
should display error for shutdown

should have error code attached to event

I've went ahead and increased the vcore to 1.35 volts. Temps with the H50 are about 52 max when idle. is this normal for the H50? I heard it's not the greatest cooler on the market.

yeah.. way normal.. not enough radiootr surface to dissapate the heat quick enough.
but isnt 1.35 a lil high on 1366 for a 4.0 OC? i figured 1.45 for 4.6, 1.35 for 4.4 and
1.25 for 4.2.
you might check into any auto features like in Toms 1155 overclock guide.
auto means excessively unnecessary..

I'm not sure? I'm a complete novice when it comes to all this stuff. Do you reckon I should reduce the volts? Is it possible that the cause of the shutting off is from over voltage?

well here is your shining moment to delve into overclocking properly.
heres Toms written guide and video

stutting off from over-voltage? no! unless temperatures are too high but u already said that it's normal

50° idle and 80°-85°+ (guessing load temp) loaded isn't really normal..

Yeah temps are in the high 40's sometimes low 50's when idling for hours. The overclock has been fine for 3 years. Never had an issue and never changed it. I was around 1.32 volts or something. I just got another shut down even with it on 1.35

This is really stressing me out. Computer seems completely fine when the overclock isn't active.

run a couple of days on no overclock to verify the shutdown issue and note the
temperature when not overclocked..

simple question: last time the radiator and fan have been de-furred?

I ran my system today with no overclock and was fine. Played a few hour sessions of games too with no probs. I cleaned the radiator a month back. Still pretty clean. Got some cans of air in the post.

Watching Tom's video now.
