Asus rog swiftt pg278q

I just hopped on the G-Sync wagon myself as my reasoning is this.

A dedicated scaler chip that has no issues vs Freesync that uses the DP standard which has ghosting and no guarantee that it will be fixed this side of the millennium ^_^

Say what?... You just ordered the Swift yourself?...

hasn't Gsync been out for a few years?

I'm not hoping on a bandwagon until freesync has matured some more (If I can help it..) and I very much doubt I'll get another Nvidia card due to their recent behavior.

Not to mention the whole ghosting issue is a bit of a weird point as it is caused by the panel used. The only comparisons I can find are using a free sync IPS monitor vs the Swift, which uses the TN panel.

Yep literally like 30 minutes ago, I couldn't resist it any longer after having a brief play on my work mates rig ^_^

Really?... how was it then?...
As I've done some testing on it, in my local PC shop :)
It all looked beautiful :) Do like the colors etc of it :)

As far as I understand, the Ghosting isnt caused by the panel because the Rog swift and the Benq 144hz tn freesync monitor use the exact same panel. still, this Ghosting is observed on the benq, but not on the rog swift.

Nvidia PR say its due to the very nature of freesync itself. there was an interview with an Nvidia person on Forbes where he put down gsync's lack of ghosting to the hardware module on the monitor. Apparantly the hardware module on the monitor is tuned to the individual panel and can keep ghosting at an absolute minimum. Freesync on the otherhand, has to know all panel variations in the driver which according to the Nvidia guy is going to be difficult and would need constant driver updates.

that was the Nvidia guys and i'll take that with a pinch of salt. but I thing there might be some truth to it.

Atleast it wouldn't be false... as I mean, having a module on the monitor to actually do the job, then you have dedicated hardware for it. With Freesync, you ONLY have software dedicated to it, it's just not the same.

It's kinda like the thing earlier with AMD, they tried fixing something with an software update, but you guys say it wouldn't work, as the issue were hardware based.

But what do I know?... this is just what I think.

£629.99, I'm not gonna lie I did cry a little but it will be worth it ^_^

God dang dude!... yeah, that does sting a bit doesn't it? ^_^ .... kinda like "Fuuuuuuck!... damn that made a big fat hole in the bank account, daaaamn!" :p

But it is fucking gorgeous though mate, no denying that fact. That chrome logo and thin bezels, that's just the sex of a monitor :)

You have an 980, so you can fully utilize it... so your decision might have been a bit easier to make than mine.
Since I'm still on my 6950 and I don't know wether I'll go Nvidia (980Ti or Titan X) later on or AMD (390X).

But I'm VERY appealed for the Swift though, either way... especially due to the fact which I stated in my earlier post above, regarding G-Sync and Freesync.

If you care about the price, don't go G-sync. Its quite the premium. Especially if you don't do alot of gaming.

I think the ROG swift is perfect for gaming, I've had one since release and it's not skipped a beat, yes the colour isn't as great but with a few tweaks it looks awesome :) and games are are now tear free!

If you dont do gaming - yes.. but If you do, then I'd say the prices are worth it. I felt it an absolute game changer and I cant see myself going back to a display without it.

Then what should I go for then, you think?...

Do you do gaming? the with out a shadow of doubt - not one ounce of a shadow of doubt, Gsync - though as I mentioned, I prefer the Acer XB270HU to the rog swift - since its IPS screen makes sure you have the best of both worlds.

let me break down what you'll find in these gaming monitors which are worth paying for.

1. 1440p resolution
2. IPS panel (in case of the Acer XB270HU)
3. Extremely low input lag (The best on the planet)
4. Extremely low response times (best in class)
5. ULMB
6. Gsync/freesync
7. 144hz (this would be one of the more compelling reasons)

So the Gsync is only one of the 7 reasons you are paying for this monitor. You'll notice all of them in your monitor and especially enjoy the 144hz refresh rate @ ultra low response times.

If you don't game much at all, then I'd look at a nice IPS screen. Maybe a curved screen?

I'm personally looking at a 1440 144hz IPS screen, which looks like it'll be freesync despite my wishes, as I still play quite a few games (and I like 144hz ALOT )but not competitively. So I'm not fussed about the 4ms response rate. Color is nice.

Freesync/Gsync is great in certain situations but I don't feel I need it. Heck, I don't really want it as knowing my luck I'll be stuck on the side which gets dropped.

Well that sound very nice indeed! :)

Umm, I do game at times, mostly Battlefield 3 and at occasion 4. Trying to get into CS:GO and CoD:AW... My community do have several competitive teams, which I might join, in the near future or so...

Well, from what I've seen in terms of what the market has to offer... curved screens seems to be very expensive, try to look all flashy and like you own a porsche, a glass house and have millions in your bank account. Plus I don't like most of their designs... the Samsung ones are nice though, but they are in the Titan X price range and that I don't feel comfortable paying.

The Swift is one that I have basically fallen in love with... as I've said a million times now, the small bezels, the nice chrome ASUS logo and the design overall just looks very nice indeed.

I don't know what it is... but for some reason, Acers monitors usually look like shit in my eyes, I don't know why though, they just do.
The stand just looks very lol, almost likes a kids toy and the orange ring on the base?... kinda looks to me like they are trying to copy the Swift. But failed.

So yeah... I'm very stuck here and even though I'm the star sign Scorpion, I feel like a fish... can't decide lol. Especially when there's such amount of money involved.

Though the Swift is about £100 cheaper than the Acer... so according to this post, the Swift is more on my than the Acer one.

Very unsure though... I'm probably the most unsure person this forum has ever had lol.

Then get the Swift, If you like something and have the funds then get it :)

I'm getting the Asus ROG Dominator. It may be freesync (and I'm currently running Nvidia..) but its exactly what I want. Its even pretty sutble for a ROG product, which is fantastic!
