Ok, I will start this thread by stating that I know I'm a bit of a dipshit, creating a RAID5 array with an onboard controller.
So, about 2 weeks ago, I created my first ever RAID5 array with 4 4TB seagate drives, on my home plex server. Worked perfectly for 2 weeks, until (I think Thursday this week) when I woke up one morning to see Intel Rapid Storage Technologies "app" telling me that my RAID was "degraded" I thought it odd that one of my 4 brand new drives had failed in the first 2 weeks of operation, but removed the offending drive and tested it in my main rig with a usb>sata Startech caddy. Tested fine (I didnt format the drive, however it did show up in disk management and crystal disk info) So presume it is fine.
I put it back in the server, booted back up (note, I didn't boot up without the offending drive), and the IRST now showed the RAID as failed - correct me if I am wrong but RAID 5 should be able to cope with a single disk failure. I tried booting up without the "failed" drive and still shows as failed. I used a "RAID Recovery" freeware tool to try and recover the RAID, but that has literally just failed after about 34hours.
I am now stuck and wondered if any of you wonderful people have had a similar experience / could recommend a solution / tell me I'm a tight arse and should have bought a dedicated RAID card. I have 6.5TB of films and TV and other stuff currently in the balance of life and death and if anyone could solve this I would be eternally grateful, and even offer to drive to where you live and give you a kiss
Anyway, cheers in advance for the help/insults.
Ben
