Asus Maximus VIII Hero - Random reboots / infinite boot loop (Q-Code 25)

Hi guys,

I need a new thread to escape the chaos of the other and make a fresh start.

After having built the system into a new case it's worked fine for almost 3 weeks until tonight. Like before the system suddenly shut down and tried to reboot until Q-Code 25 (= nothing) and tries infinitely.

Removed and reseated all cables from the PSU got it starting again.

Some of your upcoming suggestions I may have tried already and I'll say so if I have. I've at this for almost two months now and honestly cannot take much more of this, so frustrated I am. A brand new system I cannot use or enjoy.

I cannot reproduce the issue.

• Did you try it out of the case? (pretty sure you did)
• Tried it stripped down to just CPU/onboard graphics, one stick of memory and an OS drive? (eliminate other hardware causes)
• does it get to windows or just the bios? or neither?
• Can you eliminate a windows issue? (clean install on a new partition or a clean hard drive or something)

Don't know what else to try if none of those work.
Must be frustrating...

You may want to try without keyboard and mouse and see where that gets you.

Completely random: gaming, browsing Windows, BIOS (once), media player. So running it on a box for days, weeks, months isn't really a good idea I feel because it might work for prolonged periods of time. I did for a few days earlier though. Not being able the reproduce it makes it difficult. I have tried it part by part to no avail.

Have you run memtest to see if your RAM is on its way out? What you're describing happened to me when my RAM was dying.

If the memtest digs up nothing then I'd think about trying a different PSU/powersource.

Yeah RAM tests were fine for days. Shop also said PSU so requested an RMA.

Not raised this in the Asus care forum yet, but have on the ROG forums.

Already spent 300 on fixing this issue to no avail

What GPUs are you running and what power supply? It could be possible that something is not getting enough juice or maybe a bad slot on Mobo.

Other thing you want to consider is overheating.

Just an FYI, if you post in the ASUS UK customer support forum it's much easier for us to see and respond to! I don't really get the time to monitor any other threads on the OC3D forums unless my attention is drawn to them via a PM

In a lot of cases the motherboard is likely to be faulty. Just from a logistical point of view, if you consider how many points of failure a motherboard has compared to something like a CPU....

From what I can tell your PSU is more than sufficient for the job, and I doubt the graphics card is causing any problems but clearly something is either faulty or some particular combination of hardware together is causing compatibility issues.

I'd be hesitant to lean towards a software problem since you mention the problem carries over to the BIOS and gives you QR code errors.

Since you were posting pictures of your CPU, what CPU cooler are you using out of interested? Clearly I'm not up to speed on this because I haven't seen your other thread, but can you rule out a bent CPU from the whole "Skylake and overly tight CPU coolers" saga?

Thanks for your reply! Shall I ask for this thread to be moved to the Asus forum section?

The PSU is adequate indeed, however because the system only boots again after a random shutdown is by reseating the PSU cables... Is another PSU doesn't help, although the repair shop said it would, I was thinking of trying different RAM and then RMA the board if needed.

Just wondering, would replacing it with an identical board need Windows to be freshly installed again?

I have a Corsair H105 CPU cooler, which doesn't bend the CPU, and it looks fine to me as well.

Because many boards undervolt the RAM slightly, as does mine at 1.344v, I set it to 1.36v a while back.

If you swap one board for another you won't need to reinstall the only thing you need to do is re register windows
