Asus Maximus Ex & Noctua NH-D14?

Hi,

I've got the Asus Maximus Ex (P67) and a i7-2600K on it's way.

I'll be OCing the rig to 4.6Mhz (or 4.8)...

Wondered if you guys and gals would give me some advise as follows?...

1: Will the Noctua NH-D14 fit the Asus Maximus Ex P67 board?

2: Noctua NH-D14 still rated as one of the best air coolers ?

3: Looking at around 8 to 16GB or ram (will prob start with 8gb for now)..

With some 8GB Mushkin Redline Ridgeback DDR3 1600MHz 7-8-7-24 or would the

8GB Corsair Dominator GT (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz be a better choice?

4: Another question I have on RAM is. Would more ram limit the OC of the chip?

And are there any other down sides to having more RAM on OC?

Yep, ya guessed it. I'm a bit of a n00b (don't mind admitting it) but I want to put some hard saved money to a nice rig.

And I've been assured this is the best place to be

4. Easier to hit the chips limit on p67 than other components coming into play

Right, Right... so other than 16GB to some people been potentially overkill(?)... the actual overclock would surely be limited for having more actual sticks or ram.

So, to clarify it's the amount of sticks that matter and not the amount of GBs?

5: Would the Noctua be suitable for a 4.6 - 4.8mhz OC, or would something like a

Corsair H80 be more suitable? (assuming it will fit the Maximus 4 board as it was incompatiable with my older Asus P5Q Deluxe board).

6: Do the 2600K chips have different stepping like on the Q6600 (e.g G0 etc), or is that not relevant ?

The noctua is a better cooler than H80,and it will get you 5.0ghz if you are lucky with the chip.

And there is only one type of 2600k.

either go proper water cooling or high end air cooling the all in one loops arent worth it

see my thread in overclocking "going for the gold" I hit 5.3GHz with my 2600K and a D-14 wouldnt run it 24/7 that way but i did it

4.6GHz is easy with these chips and wont sweat a D-14
