hi looking to try my hand at some overclocking
currently running a Formula VI motherboard with a 4770K, corsair vengeance 16GB of ram, corsair RM650 PSU and a corsair H105 AIO cooler.

a friend of mine did some overclocking on my machine today and its currently running at 4.3 ghz but its at 1.3v which seems kinda high to me?

Thanks Baz

That is very high for 4.30GHZ, Best bet is to do it yourself and see how low you can get the volts.
Most 4770K's I've worked with tend to do 4.60GHZ at 1.30, You just have to test it and find out :)

not really sure what im doing that's why I asked if there was any guides around? it was at 4.4 but failed to pass a realbench benchmark BSOD as soon as it got to the cpu stage

Just watched the video doesn't really seem to be anything about overclocking in it?

Watch the edited video hes put and the one below, all this stuff is really easily found using the search or just looking through the forums.

Also I wouldnt let you mate touch your PC again tbh......

This !

Sorry but anyone who thinks running 4.30 with 1.30 volts is a good idea needs to step back and never touch a PC again, 1.30 volts at say 4.60/80 ok yeah but not 4.30.

Either that or youve bought a dog of a CPU tbh

Id put money on you following my guides and getting 4.4 @ 1.2 or less

will be removing his settings, watching the guides and starting from scratch later today

will let you know how I get on! and thanks for the guides I tried searching on youtube on your channel but couldn't find anything except the first video madmarc linked

You need to start and overclocking log

In addition of the two precedent videos, Here is a link to a very useful guide:

Link to another forum removed, sorry

Curious to see results! :wink2:

so my first update
set my ram to 9-9-9-24 @1.5v 1600MHZ
set my LLC to level 4( not sure if this should be different I went for a middle setting)
managed to boot and be 30 mins stable @ 1.075 volts 3.9ghz
stable at 4ghz at 1.121875 (shows 1.136v in cpu-z is this normal for llc setting)

now trying to go to 4.1ghz!

so update number 2 managed to get 4.1GHZ stable at 1.171875 volts
so went for 4.2GHZ seemed to need a lot more voltage to be 30 mins stable, 1.231250( cpu-z shows 1.248v)

ive only used realbench stress testing before starting from scratch last night and downloading occt like Tom suggested this seems to get the cpu a lot hotter?

im now hitting 75c @4.2ghz 1.231250 volts so not sure I can push my chip that much further?

It seems you have a chip below average concerning overclocking.
For a comparison, I got 4.5@1.23 with mine, and I don't think I won the silicon lottery. :(

Do not be too concerned by temperatures during stress testing when it is below 80-85
°C. It is a synthetic stress test and you shouldn't stress your cpu as much during your daily use.
What options do you use during testing? If you use CPU:Linpack with AVX option checked, it is quite normal for the temps to go higher than the simple CPU:OCCT test.

But with a H105, you will certainly hit a (thermal) wall soon.
If you were you, I would try to push it a little more. ;)

so on to update number 3, I seem to have taken my chip as far as it will go. I have managed to hit 4.3GHZ but its taken an awful lot of volts now up to 1.281250 which is hitting 85C during testing but it is stable, not sure where to go now thinking maybe best to bring it back down to 4.2ghz?

Take screenshots of your settings in bios so that we can see what you have there. You might just have a bad chip.

hey sorry for the delay in reply ive been busy away working, what do you need screen shots of? the bios seems pretty in depth?

thanks Baz
