Asus DirectCU II 7979 vs XFX R7970 Black Double Dissipation

XFX's customer service/ tech support freakin rocks.

Knowing that I was not the original owner, they RMA'd the 9800gt's cooler twice. Then months later they gave me a HD 5750 to replace it.

Whats there not to like ?

How much cheaper ?

Whatever it is, the double lifetime warranty is well worth the cost and it makes for a great selling point when it comes to upgrade again.

I've heard of people getting no end of aggro over the phone with them and them not listening at all, but, maybe just depends on who picks up the phone

Congrats on that sweet upgrade !

Btw.. you'll never catch me looping liquids inside my rig. I'm an easy breazey cautious overclocker.

Lol I already clocked my 7970 to 1125Mhz xD so far so good... fan got a bit to noisy for me so I clocked it down to 1000Mhz ^^

I mostly want to just try to do watercooling, since it seems so badass. Besides I love silence ^^

I am allmost tempted to order another 7970 lol but I think investing in a better PSU would be ebtter first, I would push my current one to allmost 700 watts and its only a cheap 750 watts PSU from OCZ 80+ bronze lol

With a warranty like that, I'm sure there are legions of overclockers and modders out there that try to con their way through the RMA process. Thus why I didn't mind having to jump through some hoops and be a little persistant with proving that my concerns were legit.

hahaha sorry! XD

you reckon I can pull 2 7970's on this thing? xD it should be able to. 680 watts out of 750.. hmm might just go for it lol

It might work, but I wouldn't risk it. According to Gpu Review, each one needs 250w.

With my calculation I took 275 watss into consideration of each videocard and 100 watts for the CPU.

The one thing I dont like about the power supply is that i would stress it SO MUCH

Also the cables are really really really short..... cant hide them away decently. Might just upgrade to a bigger case and a bigger PSU. Mostly so I can do watercooling in the future

Thanks guys! But I'll be waiting a bit for the prices to drop! But I think I am going 7950 and OC to 7970 lvl.

+ I REALLY want MSI cooling on my card. I love their cooling. But if not MSI release a 7970 Twin Frozr III I'll definantly go XFX!

Btw guys, what do you think of a Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 620w for this card? I got a X79 setup BTW.

God I love this forum!

Yup.. very impressive.

I was under the impression that GPUreview was listing the GPU's max TDP. Your psu should be fine as long as the +12v rail(s) can put out the amps. How old is it ?

It is an Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 620w. So, it's pretty new. Bought for a month back or something like it.

Hey Guys. Didn't want to make a new topic for two questions

1) I have the Gigabyet hd7970 oc version which TTL made a review of. My case is the CM storm trooper and i want to ask if i can Crossfire with a different brand or must it be the exact same?!?!

2) some time in the future i want to go crossfire 2-3months after the kepler has been released. Can i run crossfire with corsair ax750w and i7-2600k overclocked with a Nzxt Havik??

1) As far as I know you can crossfire different brands and the faster card will default to the slower cards speed.

2) 750w might be cutting it close and many would recommend (as would I) going for a 850w PSU at minimum.

1) if this is confirmed i will buy the same card

2) the corsair's next is the AX 850w. I know they have other series, but i prefer the AX. And the 1200w is overkill and i think it is too costy
