Asus 460GTX 1GB Temperature

It fluctuates between 31 and 43 idle on boot-up. Is this odd at all? What temperatures are everyone else getting? My old Zotac 460GTX 768MB get a constant 36, so I find this odd.

are we talkin like right into boot up cos the drivers and software will be like kicking in

Yeah, but it's still like that afterwards too. Like, sometimes the room will be warm, and the card's at 31 and sometimes in the morning, when it's cool, it'd start at like 43.

Replace the thermal paste

see if that helps or maybe the program you are using to figure the temps out is a bit dodgy?

If it's new then send it back and get a new one if its worrying you

no harm in sending it back and getting a new one.

Not too much, once it starts causing problems, I'll take the heatsink off to see. I just wanted to see if anyone else had an idea since I just got an account. How does one even even get bad readings from software?

The nvidia software in Ubuntu is know to report buggy temperatures on some cards. I wouldn't be too concerned. Take the more reasonable looking temperature as the right one.

The newer versions of nvidia-settings have fixed this, but they are not out on ubuntu yet.

I wouldn't recommend upgrading to non-standard ubuntu packages to fix this though, especially not with something as important as your graphics settings unless you're confident you can fix any broken packages through CLI.

some thermal paste's take like 300 hours of runnin-in to work properly. the 480 i got's thermals are better nowand that's (also?) due to it being winter now
