Are you going DDR3 soon?

Ill need some more/better ram soon but I only have a ddr2 board (as do most people id guess). Will you be buying a new motherboard for this technology soon? Perhaps a better ddr2 setup? Whats your say?

Im with you Hyper! :)

DDR2 is at an awesome price at the moment.

Plus so far DDR3 hasn't shown us any unblievable performance gains.

Infact very little performance gain.

Indeed, the prospect of 8g DDR2 for less than £140 is kinda hard to argue with.

What`s the cheapest DDR3 @ 8g ? Probably afford a better gfxcard for ur build or summit.

So atm DDR2 seems pretty much still the stuff to go for.

Im at a loss at what to upgrade next. Its either from my e6300 @ 3.3ghz to a Quad (isnt there some new ones out soon?) or get some better ram (my current modules are bottlenecking my overclock tbh). I still have my good old p5b deluxe (hmmm not too old) making me think..

Perhaps some high end ddr2 (good overclockers), overclock cpu further, 64 bit OS (4gb of ram), get a quad next, keep hold of these till ddr3 is the p00nage, new mobo, new ram (in a years time+++)

Ya - its not for immediate future. In fact i am feeling rather "safe" with current games but i can see 4gb being the norm sooner and sooner. Its rather tempting too. Its a shame my ram only goes to 950mhz and beeps on boot when tightened from 5-5-5-15. I bet i cud take my e6300 further too :(

Again i just need to juggle between a quad or better/more ram for next upgrade.

My p5b dlx shud carry me on a bit further (the prices of current mobos arent exactly inviting me to upgrade)

This might be of intrest ;)

*cough* SPAM! :p :D

I have DDR3 and DDR2, one in each rig (depending on what I'm testing though, obviously). I don't find it makes a huge difference for DDR3 but hey, it's the future :)

I don’t SPAM I just suitably place associated merchandise :)

I'm impressed with that response lol.

As for DDR3, I'll be sticking with my DDR2 until practically forced to switch over.

Main thing stopping me getting ddr3 is the fact its gonna be a £300+ job at least. I dont want a new motherboard tbh (esp at those prices) as afaik my p5b dlx can support quad and high speed memory.

I'm on DDR3 at the moment, but TBH I'd have no problems switching back to DDR2 if a good motherboard came out that was only released in DDR2 format.

For me the only real advantage of DDR3 is being able to run a super high FSB speed, without having to worry too much about the memory speed when you start getting dividers involved.

On another note, I got a DDR3 kit running at 6-6-6-12 timings @ 1600mhz (DDR) yesterday, so the timings are getting better.

I wouldn't get ddr3 either, I had some not too long ago but I would have had to shell out for a new mobo too... Too expensive so I got rid of them!

With 4gb ddr2 the price it is today, it gets my vote until 2gb of ddr3 is ~£150 with decent speed/timings.

Jim - nice work, overvolted?
