Are EK thermal pads OK to use with an GPU's stock cooler?

Hi all,

I've recently sold my 1080 Ti and the buyer doesn't want the waterblock so I will be reinstalling the stock cooler.

Is it OK to leave the EK thermal pads on the card for use with the stock air cooler?

I ask as the original pads were damaged when I removed the stock cooler.

P.S. May seem like a silly question but I didn't know if they were made of different materials or something like that.

If they are the same thickness things will be fine. Just be careful that the EK pads are not thicker than the originals. If they are thicker, they may cause the core to be hotter due to worse contact. If they are too thin, the memory and VRMs might not make good contact.

Think they are a little bit thinner.

When I put the stock cooler back on I'll make sure good contact is made.

The stock pads are usually way thicker...I would be surprised if the now compressed EK pads made contact

dont keep the EK pads. They will not be efficient. you need the original ones. I always keep mine attached to the stock cooler in its box for that reason

With modern cards like the 1080ti and Titan XP the whole cooler goes back together back plate and all. The screws are also bolts. Mine are fully reassembled as then it's all intact and I don't lose a single screw.

Pretty sure you'll have to buy some thermal grizzly pads in the correct size tbh. Too thick or thin and the card could bend.
