Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme Rev.2

my brother wanted a new cooler for his phenom II 550 which did not sound like an hair dryer for £30 or under , so in the end he decided on the Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme Rev2 thinking it would manage him as he does not overclock i installed it for him replacing the mx2 which is already on it with mx4 which i ordered from ocuk at the same time . with hwmonitor running in the background he started to test it running a few games (halflife2 + bioshock etc) , after around 10 min he decided to check on the temps he was getting and was supprised it was hitting 65c (stock fan etc hit 62c max) . so my question is where do artic cooling get the 160w worth of cooling from ? , to me that figure is a joke for a cooler which does not cost much less than my akasa venom . his case is the cm storm scout , specs below taken from the product page at ocuk . can he return it with not being happy with it ?

The Arctic Cooling Freezer heatsinks are pretty low end TBH. There are much better coolers like the Coolermaster 212 Plus which is also cheaper.

He should be able to return it if it's new and you still have the receipt.

i told him this but he got me to order it anyways lol , will have to see if ocuk will exchange it for something better and pay the differance

What about the ARCTIC Freezer 7 Rev.2 ? Has anybody had any expirience with this heatsink beacuse I am thinking of getting one.

Yes i have experience with it,

for its price not bad at all , all tho i wasn't aiming at a BIG overclock...

The cooler is fine....Ive only heard good things about them in value for money, not everyone needs a d14 for eg. Rather a mugen rev2 prob tho they are pretty cheap?

It's not that good for the money, especially when the Coolermaster Hyper 212, Scyth Mugen and Zalman CNPS9700 are slightly cheaper and all get lower temps than the Arctic.

Any cooler is better than stock, all about what you want and like the look of imo...i like the ninja3 sure prob the mugen is better tbh and i did consider buying it but i love the look of the ninja and always wanted a ninja back in the day

as fodr said ' let him get on with it'

I just got it today decreased my temps by almost 20 degrees C on idle. Not tested under full load yet. But I think the main reason for such a decrease in temps was cause my stock was not installed correctly or the thermal compound was really bad and most probable reason...I have a crap case, bad air flow. Anyway good luck with whatever you choose in the end
